What about the trash man? I thought for sure he'd be one of the honored. Why not?

what about the Garbage men? dont they get recognition for throwing rocks at the window to wake them up? or was that not honorable enough... did they go about their business of picking up trash for fear they would be in trouble from the city guy that follows everybody around to make sure they are pickin up what they are supposed to..

Guess that guy doesn't follow them in my neighborhood, or maybe it's only the recycling trucks he doesn't follow because they've skipped my bin a few times. Makes it hard to recycle when you have to shove 2 weeks worth into that 1 tiny bin they give you.

Really people?????? Could you not say something nice about the fact that all 13 students were not hurt? This could have been one of your kids. We always hear plenty of bad stuff on the news. The one time there is a great out come and all you can post are ugly comments.I think the students are very blessed and thank God for all those who stepped in to save them all.I think it's wonderful that there are still good people out there willing to help one another.

The release states the garbage worker is being honored. Reading past the first few words often helps. <<A ceremony on Wednesday will honor a university police officer, two students, and two others, including one of the garbage men, who fire officials say acted very bravely in the face of danger.>>

The story was probably updated after it was brought to light and you are late to the party.

The article has been edited since I read it at 630 this morning.. Least they could hava done was to reflect this in the comment section to keep others from critiquing others' comments.. JS

Like anonamous, this article originally said 2 students and a UPD officer were being honored. It didn't say the garbage men were. This article was edited pretty extensively. It mentioned the garbage men in passing and that's it. I thought it was odd that it said a cop and 2 students were being honored but not what they did to help save the students. I'm glad the garbage men are being honored. When the news first broke, they were clearly the unsung heroes in this. The fire department also deserves praise, of course.
