Apparel factory fire reveals big brands' shadowy supply chains
Sweating and trembling as he fielded questions about last month's killer fire at one of his factories in Bangladesh, Delwar Hossain insisted he had no idea the workshop was making clothes for Wal-Mart Stores Inc when it went up in flames.

There is no "revelation" here - nothing new has been revealed. The shadowing supply chain is not some new discovery - these same issues in these same places has been discovered many times over many years - walmart just simply played the old "we didn't know" game and denied responsibility as they ALWAYS do and as the ALWAYS have. These so called "shadowy supply chains" have been there for decades.
I do give Reuters high marks for the attempted assist to walmart in trying to give them plausible deniability in explaining how vendors often subcontract work out without the customer's knowledge. Nice assist and a good try but I don't think people will buy that - especially when you are talking about the ultimate control freak that IS walmart. In one minute they tell you how walmart controls the cost to the penny down to the last button - in the next breath they expect you to believe that the entire manufacturing process could be moved without the company's knowledge. It just isn't believable.
How many times over how many years does walmart have to get caught right in the dead center of these situations before people begin to connect the dots on their own?

Well here we are AGAIN with what is being reported as another multi fatality accident in ANOTHER factory that supplies Walmart. So let me see - if this goes like ALL the other tragedies Walmart will first deny even knowing the factory made products for them. When that doesn't work they will say the supplier used that factory without their permission. Then they will do a big press release on the NEW guidelines the company is putting in place to "make sure this never happens again" - until the next time it happens again. How many times do people buy this over and over before they realize the ONLY common denominator in ALL these tragedies is Walmart. I have no doubt walmart's good 'ol "aw shucks" routine will work again like it always has. Like I said one year ago and then again five months ago and like I am saying today - nothing new here. No one will even ask Walmart about all the new "guidelines" they supposedly put in place that were supposed to prevent this from happening again the last time - or the time before that. Consumers keep rewarding their behavior with sales simply because it is cheap - Walmart knows this. Why would they change anything as long as the money keeps rolling in? It is a shame that Walmart shoppers don't seem to realize those people under that pile of rubble or laying in the ashes of that factory were real people
