Obviously the VFD and the chief have something to hide because they keep trying to delete this thread. What are they covering up? Who is this Bagwell guy that posted earlier?

I just read the Clinton courier where this Bagwell guy said he is tired of listening to the people in the community. Can he do that?

I'm confused....doesn't the county already give AVFD money each year already? Like 40k? They also bought a new fire truck for the department, do you plan on giving it back?

Now I am being asked to pay a membership fee, on top of the tax money you already get from the county? How does that work?

Let's not forget the $150 for medical emergencies you are going to charge! I called for an ambulance, not a fire truck...keep that in mind! Maybe the county will pull your first responder agreement, hard to charge if you have no medical direction to operate under.

I have a relative who's home burned a few years back in the Andersonville area. It burned to the ground partially for lack of experience from the AVFD. If my paying will ensure that if my home cathces fire and Experienced fire fighters come to help, I will gladly pay. Yes, the chief could have worded his letter a bit differently, but I will still pay. I want to keep my taxes as low as possible.
As for the comment about "you can home school or send them to private school" - I will gladly pay taxes for public schools, I cannot afford private school and cannot quit work to home school...

But why should I pay taxes to send your children to school? That's not fair to me. You can home school for free. The Sam with all of the money we spend for police protection. We have the right to carry a gun to protect ourselves. For the fire dept, use a true volunteer fire dept. don't ask me to use my taxes to save your house.

It is not fair for us to work for free. We risk our lives to fight fires. Chief Bagwell is one of the bravest firefighters in the country. He has invented several ways to fight fire that are used throughout the world. We are blessed to have him. He could make several hindered thousand dollars if he were chief in New York City, but he chooses to stay here. We need to pay this man to protect us.

A man with the chief's experience should get at least 125,000 a year. He could the train everyone else, so you wouldn't have to pay the others. He would be like a one man fire dept doing the work of twenty.

Oh i see. So dont we need to know a little background on him before we pay that much? Such as what training he's got.i was thinking we the people should pay more out of pocket. Start him out at 275.000 with free medical and dental. 6 weeks vacation per year with a 10%attitude cost of living rate each year

Don't talk about what you don't know. Chief has been a firefighter for over twenty years. He is considered to be one of the best in the country. Don't attack this man who lives to serve.

And why would i want to take down this stuff. You first said due to lack of funds you were having to start this subscribe thing.and that was to keep operating. Now you tell me a chief should be payed 125000 a yr. I am not totally against paying but don't you think this is out of your budget and to keep him we the people must take out of our pockets and put it in his? You soubd like a politician .now think about it and come back with a convince me answer

People are entitled to be paid. Chief is willing to take a six figure pay cut to help the people of this community. He is over three fire stations, the one at Belmont, the one next to the school and the mountain road station. Pay him 40,000 for each station. Then let him have a sales commission for selling the station the fire trucks and that is fair pay. With a man like him you don't need to pay any of the other firefighters. They will work for free to learn from chief Bagwell. A year or two learning from him and they can go to any fire dept in the country.

Why do you oppose him?

AVFD is this why you want to start making people pay for a VOLUNTEER fire dept? So this Jeff Bagwell guy can get a big salary? And he gets paid to sell us the trucks. Because of that, and the fact that he keeps deleting this thread, I'm not joining.
