I spoke to a chinaman some time ago who is originaly from Hong Kong as I was interested in the Ship,he told me that it was built over by an airstrip and that was when the airstrip was lengthened into the sea around Hong Kong I am inclined to beleive him,he was quite adamnt about this.

I was there when this happened. I was only 9 but remember it very clearly. We all went up to the top floor of the flats to watch. I even have some really old black and white pics somewhere of it after the flames were put out. Sad day!

I would not trust John Chinaman in a case like this. But the fiendish chinese can be very adamant if they feel like it.

It does appear more likely than not that the work was indeed the act of arson because a natural fire originates in a single location and spreads - it was reported that the fire was observed in several locations simultaneously. Secondly, if I was an investigator for the insurance company that covered the loss of the Queen Elizabeth, I would seriously bring into question and follow up on the possibility that the ship's owner had a vested interest in the ship's demise since it may not have, in all probability , been yielding enough revenue to justify its upkeep and initial investment. The investigation might have better served the public good, had it been conducted at an international level by a panel of forensic experts and supported by the international community at large. It would appear that the lack of public pressure on this matter gave rise to the over simplified inconclusive investigation.
