but the business Q is what did it cost to make? most small movies spend at least that much to be made and promoted...so we'll see if it made money...
And most of that $3 mil goes to the theaters and distributors. The makers are losing money big time.

It bombed, just like we predicted.

No big Hollywood budget, a documentary film, hardly any advertising and it still did this well. Bet that just erks your taters.
It cost over 8 million to make. It made 3. Bomb. As for advertising, you must be kidding. Conservative talking heads hyped this movie like it was the second coming of Christ, and still it failed.

What a shame. Just think of all progress they could have made if only they'd used that 8 million for research into the mysterious mechanism of ID. Once again, it would appear the only research the ID crowd is interested in is "market research"...

What a riot, this is so funny. Ben Stein never so called "Bible Thumped" and you Atheists are still bent up all out of shape, pathetic. A fool sayeth in his heart, there is no God. Howver, here's something interesting for you....lol!

An atheist on a talk show:

This background is helpful in offering the context of a conversation a Christian had with a caller on a radio talk show. The conversation went something like this:

Caller:“I’m an atheist, and I want to tell you Christians that if you believe Cain married his sister, then that’s immoral.”

Christian:“If you’re an atheist, then that means you don’t believe in any personal God, right?”

Caller:“Correct!”

Christian:“Then if you don’t believe in God, you don’t believe there’s such a thing as an absolute authority. Therefore, you believe everyone has a right to their own opinions—to make their own rules about life if they can get away with it, correct?”

Caller:“Yes, you’re right.”

Christian:“Then, sir, you can’t call me immoral; after all, you’re an atheist, who doesn’t believe in any absolute authority.”

The Christian guest went on:“Do you believe all humans evolved from apelike ancestors?”
Caller:“Yes, I certainly believe evolution is fact.”

Christian:“Then, sir, from your perspective on life, if man is just some sort of animal who evolved, and if there’s no absolute authority, then marriage is whatever you want to define it to be—if you can get away with it in the culture you live in.
“It could be two men, two women, or one man and ten women, or ten men and one woman; in fact, it doesn’t even have to be a man with another human—it could be a man with an animal....

“I’m sorry, sir, that you think Christians have a problem. I think it’s you who has the problem. Without an absolute authority, marriage, or any other aspect of how to live in society, is determined on the basis of opinion and ultimately could be anything one decides—if the culture as a whole will allow you to get away with this. You have the problem, not me.”

so a horror movie made by a film grad on a whim, is the same as this "groundbreaking work of truth"..made by "experts"...?

so silly... but see the post below yours. 8 million to make...a bomb...

and the reality is, its a bomb because most of the believers can smell a rat...

And yet, its in ninth place ahead of Mr. Cloonys movie that has been out three weeks and twice as many theaters.

The point I was making (since you didnt get it) was that you dont have to spend a lot of money to make a successful movie. Three million on a movie isnt a lot. That sounded strange! It isnt a lot for a movie. There, thats better.

1. A talk show informs your political, social and cultural views?

2. Ignorant strawman argument. Any responsible person, atheist or not, knows that humans along with many species of animals have evolved the capacity for empathy, reciprocity, etc., which contribute to the social fabric. Laws formalize what rules and guidelines reasonable people agree are worth preserving.

3. Virtually every society known, whether non-theistic, mono-theistic or polytheistic, has very common rules about appropriate behavior. All of this achieved without ever even hearing of the bible.

4. You are an idiot.

Funny that you would use a "moral relativism" argument given the Old Testament is one large display of "moral relativism". When is it ok to kill? When does killing become murder? Aren't Christians specifically instructed to offer the other cheek?

Perhaps you should investigate Euthyphro's dilemma...

What logic? This was a rant, a slur against atheists and evolutionary scientists, with strawman arguments created for both caricatures.

What a crock. Every society in history has codified moral and ethical behavior, almost all of them without even knowing of the bible's existence. Even many animal species show the evolutionary advantage of reciprocity and empathy. No respectable atheist would ever answer like the caricature used above.
