NASA Discovers Large Lunar Ice Field
Posted: 7:52 am PST November 13, 2009
Updated: 9:27 am PST November 13, 2009

MOFFETT FIELD, Calif.-- NASA announced Friday the discovery of a large field of ice on the moon.

Just weeks after NASA's Lunar Crater Observation and Sensing Satellite (L-CROSS) mission analyzed a plume of debris generated by the impact of a satellite into a crater near the moon's south pole, scientists said the findings suggest the presence of frozen water at the site of impact.

Over the last decade, scientists have found some hints of underground ice on the moon's poles, but this is the best evidence yet.

Exoplanets and the ‘lithium problem’
The idea is that the formation of rocky planets such as Earth and Mars leave their companion stars deficient in heavy elements such as aluminium, iron and nickel. The team came to this conclusion after finding that the Sun seems to have about a 15% deficit in these elements compared to similar stars.

Now another group of astronomers has looked at the lithium content of Sun-like stars, and discovered that stars with exoplanets have less lithium than those with no exoplanets. It is already well known that the Sun has 140 times less lithium on its surface than predicted by models of solar evolution.

I agree, and I HAVE been lucky to see both ISS & the STS following eachother on several occasions.

I do however prefer www.heavens-above.com as a source. Has maps showing the tracks, and other items of general astronomical importance.

Have any of you seen 2012? Complete abortion of science. It's entertaining if you have the ability to stop derisive snorts issuing from your mouth in the theater. About all I got out of it was "yeah, and a wooden boat is supposedly able to handle THAT?"
