When it comes to the historical documentation of humanity, how old is the oldest piece of documentation of any civilization or evidence of human existence?

An international research team found the 500,000-year-old skull of a young male Homo erectus in a block of travertine stone in Turkey being sawed into building tiles. The scientists discovered small lesions in the skull that indicate the young man suffered from Leptomeningitis tuberculosa, a form of TB that attacks the protective membrane covering the brain.

What do you mean by "documentation"?

What do you mean by "civilization"?

What do you mean by "human existence"?

Documentation: Forms of writing have been found that date back 5000-8000 years (Egypt about 5,000 yrs, Mesopotamia about 6,000 yrs, and some fragments from other places that may date back 7-8,000 yrs).

Civilization: Cities? The oldest date back about 9,000 to possibly 11,000 years (Catal Huyuk, Jericho).

Human existence: Depends on where one draws the line...Homo sapiens (us) has been around more that 100,000 years.

Silly.

As anyone with brains knows, the Universe was created Last Tuesday, at 4pm GMT.

Everyone in it, complete with implanted memories, and so on.

That means, as of this writing, the Universe is 2 Days Old.

(of course, it all gets re-created AGAIN, Next Tuesday...)

As most to all historians have been studying, there have been no record of human civilization further back than 4000 years. That is not taking any type of scientific dating into the loop, which does bring a question around, why for one do historians not trust scientific dating today? Remember that historians have studied up on history pertaining to all aspects in their field, such as ancient history, which they have already got a full record from previous historians to study on as well. Unlike Science, history does not change, and anyone who tries to change what is known as actual history is usually corrupt.

When something is led to corruption, it has definite signs to show that something is not right, when debates happen, usually it is about a piece of information that has become corrupt and needs to be straightened out. And now I am about to get closer to the point of this thread. Corruption of the dating systems and the conflict between them and historical facts which are also in text books.

That is just not true... You need to start reading something OTHER than creationist claims.

You could hardly find a historian on the planet who would agree with you!

Incorrect.

Just in China alone, the records go back farther than that...

Hmmm.

Methinks you're using selective memory, here-- or selective something at least.

Aaaah, I see you're one of those heretical Last Thursdayians.

That's okay-- at least you're only 2 days off.

The ones to watch out for are the Saturdayilites. Those folk are Total Nutjobs.

Everyone KNOWS that the Universe could not POSSIBLY have been created on a Saturday-- The Creator would've missed the Saturday Morning Cartoons, and we all know how much the Creator loves cartoons.

Hmm, I may find it politically advantageous to side with you on this matter due to our mutual condemnation of the Saturdayilites. I will claim that your beliefs are not heretical on all of the Sunday talk shows, and that any disparaging statements I may have made about you were obviously taken out of context by people who want to divide America.

Off we go to smear a political candidate connected to a Saturdayilite!

how old do texts say the 1st civilization was? and wasn't that the Sumerian civilization?

Excluding prehistory and only using accountable timelined documented history.

What exactly are you getting at? How far back we have historical records?

Do you somehow think that only documented history took place?

No, civilizations date back farther than the Sumerians. The earliest known pottery shards are, IIRC, from the far east, either China or Japan.

I'm beginning to this we have a Russell's law situation here.

I don't think that Monkey is who Monkey claims to be. The posts are just a little _too_ stupid to be real. I suspect Monkey is actually someone like Polly or Hex playing a joke on us.

You may want to check out this article: http://www.newscientist.com/channel/being-hum... which describes a city or the remains of a settlement, at the very least, found in about 130 feet of water off of the west coast of India. Early dating of artifacts go back to 7,500 BC, which, according to RMB Furion, is older than the world.

Whoa, all kinds of crazy stuff out there. Oldest settlement in the British Isles is apparently 700,000 years old.

Its almost Saturday! I will bow to the east to witness the birth of the universe.

March is a special month for us, as the universe will be born 5 times.

Praise Satur...n(?)
