65% of adults polled favor a return to prayer in public schools. Would like to know how the question was phrased.
Many Christian teachers believe that God is behind evolution, ID.
Significant number of Christian ministers are also public school teachers.
Fortunately, we are not a "majority rules" society.

However, I suspect that that 65% drops to 0% if you rephrase the question: "Do you favor forced prayer to Hindu gods in public schools?"

Maybe it would be, if it weren't for the fact that too many fundies have a bad habit of taking advantage of such classes and use them as preaching platforms. Hence kids can explore it anywhere out of school. Or even discuss it with all the other kids in the playground.

High schools do not have playgrounds.:-)
You think K-3 teachers discuss Intelligent design and evolution?

Schools are a platform for the exchange of ideas.

I find your position on this whole thing a little confusing.

Are you suggesting that we should allow teachers to teach ID? Or no?
Are you saying we should teach it to kids in 3rd grade?

Indeed. Read all of it.

A teacher, as an employee of the government, can be restricted in speech. Since the government cannot be preferential to one religion or another, teachers may not promote their religious views in a public school.

They shouldn't if they were good teachers.

Okay, cool. Then let's give every student a copy of the anarchist's cookbook and teach them to consider the pro's and cons of an anarchic society. Oh, and if we're talking about IDC then let us also discuss the benefits of religious fundamentalism and wiping out infidels.

Platform for the exchange of ideas, right?

The highschools don't? That would have been news to us when I was there. Oh wait, you actually define a "playground" as a specific type of playground, don't you? We had a computer lab, library with several conference rooms and another computer ab. A computer class, and a technology class, called the electronics lab. We also had a chemistry lab .... all of these are playgrounds.

Well, you need to use better defined terms.

Is a dragon anything with the name "dragon"? Komodo Dragons and Bearded Dragons both exist.

Is an elf anyone who defines themselves as an elf? Or has elven features? Or is it someone who speaks Elvish?

As for aliens? Are we talking illegal aliens? Or any life form which exists someplace other than it's place of origin? something off planet?

Regard the many discussions of Intelligent Design and promotion of Christian philosophy as contrary to law.

Have you considered teaching as a profession?
Would your beliefs influence the teaching of courses in the liberal arts?

Christianity seems to influence President Obama.

Obama? Isn't he an evil atheist liberal socialist Communist Muslim without a real birth certificate?(shrug)

.

Either way, IDC is pure anti-science and that alone is a fine reason to keep it out of public schools. That and religious freedom.

"Religious freedom" is used by the other side to keep it mentioned.:-)

Anti science is not unconstitutional.

50% of Americans believe that space aliens built the pyramids. The work of the History Channel ;-)

No, but anti-science is bad science which is a good reason to keep it out of the classroom. The other reason is that it's being used as a front for religious apologetics which IS against the Constitution.

I'd like to know which orifice you pulled the "50% of Americans believe that space aliens built the pyramids" figure.

Regardless, the teaching of science -- IN SCIENCE CLASS, mind you -- is what we're trying to accomplish by instructing students in the Theory of Evolution.

Pushing "Intelligent Design" (i.e.: Creationism) in public school would be the exact same sort of pseudoscience that teaching these children that space aliens built the pyramids.

THIS IS A TRUE STORY! In 1974, Paradise Valley a suburb of Phoenix, Arizona. My sister and I had a UFO Experience. I was 7 years old and she was 9.
In the fall of 1974 my sister and I were walking to school, it was around 4:00am and completely dark outside. The reason why we were walking to school so early is because in 1974 Paradise Valley was brand new, our new school "Arrowhead" was still being built, so "Indian Bend" had Double Sessions to accommodate all the children. First session was 5am-11am.
We were walking to school and we saw a huge golden pyramid floating in front of Shadow Mountain, It was massive 300 feet tall and 300 feet wide at least. I don't have any memory of anything after that except a generic memory of going to school that day. I have an implant in my hand, a little black spot, under my skin, since that day. At the age of 7, that moment changed my life. I have been on a quest ever since to find out what that was. When you see the golden pyramid of The Illuminati, that would be the best way to describe the pyramid we saw. Here is a link to a documentary called "The UFO Experience", there is video of this exact same pyramid in the film.
