Should evolution be taught in high school?

Feb 24, 2008 | Posted by: Cash | Full story: www.scientificblogging.com

Microbiologist Carl Woese is well known as an iconoclast. At 79 years of age, Woese is still shaking things up. Most recently, he stated in an interview with Wired that...

"My feeling is that evolution shouldn't be taught at the lower grades. You don't teach quantum mechanics in the grade schools. One has to be quite educated to work with these concepts; what they pass on as evolution in high schools is nothing but repetitious tripe that teachers don't understand."

Now you are moving the goal posts. I am not sure how fine or coarse the filter was in the experiments where they got their virtual monkeys to type out Shakespeare. Demanding a sentence would only increase the amount of time needed.

The infinite number of monkeys is not testable. It was made testable by making the test reasonable.

Religion is brought up because your beliefs are based upon religion.

The theory of evolution is not a religious belief. Your objections to it are based upon religion and though you may try to be disingenuous by saying WE bring up religion when you are by objecting to evolution based only upon religious beliefs.

And no, we don't try to disprove ID. It is always up to ideas to supply evidence for themselves first. Like Sanford no one can provide any evidence for Intelligent Design. There is no need to disprove IDiocy since it was never proved in the first place.

Just as Sanford never made a successful "proof" of his work. If he can't provide any evidence for his case the least little bit of evidence debunks it.

Yet the vast majority of the scientific community disagree with you. Your position, therefore, is that scientists are a bunch of incompetent boobs. The alternative is, of course, that you're just another loony.

If ToE does not address the origin of life, then tell me precisely at what point life begins. Was the precursor to single cell life "non-life". At what point does the ToE arbitrarily stop looking for answers, and why? Can you logically, in your own words, explain to me WHY abiogenesis is not part of ToE?

HTS, you obviously cannot recognize logical fallacies. What was his strawman argument? And the only person evincing a hangup about religion are you and your ilk.

People who believe the theory of evolution have no "hangups" about religion. In fact you will find all sorts of people of different religions that believe the theory. Only fundies in their undies like you and Rusty have a hangup.

In a rare moment of honesty Rusty admitted that he does not like evolution because for him it would make the crucifixion of Jesus unnecessary.

<quoted text> It is a bad gene... that's my point. The appearance and perpetuation of sickle cell trait is irrelevant to gradualistic evolution.
No, it isn't. It enables people to survive a very virulent form of malaria. And if it stays in the species long enough the people who die off from getting a double dose will eventually not get sickle cell anemia since their genes will not be selected by reproduction.

Not trying to validate the Theory of Evolution. MILLIONS of scientists, technicians and students in THOUSANDS of museums, universities, research laboratories, excavation sites, research hospitals, observatories, etc. all around the world, over the past 200+ years have been doing a great job with that.

What I was doing was merely pointing out your LYING and hypocrisy.

You WERE the one who brought up "story telling" in one of your posts, were you not? All the while KNOWING that your whole world view is based on childishly ridiculous bronze age goat herder "story telling".

Notice that HTS is LYING about the people who accept the Theory of Evolution all being atheists, when in reality the VAST majority of people who accept the Theory of Evolution are Christians, Jews, Buddhists, Hindus, Confucianists, Daoists, Shinto, Sikhs, Wiccans, Pagans, agnostics, etc.... this is because (just like all "fundamentalist xrisitan creationists") he HAS to LIE in order to maintain his bronze age goat herder FAIRY TALE delusions. He HAS to LIE about people who accept the ToE, the vast majority of scientists, the research and evidence, science itself and reality.

Another LIE. Don't you ever get tired of LYING?

About as long as it will take HTS to properly identify logical errors. Now was that a straw man argument or begging the question?
