I mentioned in a previous post that there are questions that will inevitably lead to metaphysics, as soon as the question is asked: "why does science work?"
They cant justify their confidence in science nor the claim that scientific method is efficient.
They go as far as denying the value of philosophy when philosophy is at the heart of science.
Take REALISM for example.
Science relies on the philosophy described in realism to justify the claims of empirical-ness of evidence.
But get them to come to terms with it if you can.
