As much as Star Trek fans like to go slumming with the troglytes, they never acknowledged the reality where some have to dig in the mines, others refine the ores, while others make machine parts, all on a boring assembly line where none have the gratification of seeing the final product.
That is economics. Star Trek is an upper middle class fantasy that is being shredded day by day. Class warfare has made higher education a thing where everyone can throw their money down and try but only the aristocracy will succeed in the end.
