A Trojan Horse for Creationism

Mar 8, 2013 Full story: Truthdig 1,536

I watched in shock the summer before my sophomore year of high school as my home state, Louisiana, passed a law that opened the door for the teaching of creationism.

No, I think we would argue -- as you well know -- that "hell" is a man-made concept invented by angry, self-righteous people just like YOU in order to feed their hope of someday seeing their enemies getting slowly roasted by an angry God who is naturally always on THEIR side, etc.

Don'cha just hate being right all the time, Petey?

The following is supposedly an actual question given on a University of Washington chemistry mid-term. The answer by one student was so "profound" that the professor shared it with colleagues, via the Internet, which is, of course, why we now have the pleasure of enjoying it as well!

Bonus Question: Is Hell exothermic (gives off heat) or endothermic (absorbs heat)?

Most of the students wrote proofs of their beliefs using Boyle's Law (gas cools when it expands and heats when it is compressed) or some variant.

One student, however, wrote the following:

First, we need to know how the mass of Hell is changing in time. So we need to know the rate at which souls are moving into Hell and the rate at which they are leaving. I think that we can safely assume that once a soul gets to Hell, it will not leave. Therefore, no souls are leaving. As for how many souls are entering Hell, let's look at the different Religions that exist in the world today. Most of these religions state that if you are not a member of their religion, you will go to Hell. Since there is more than one of these religions and since people do not belong to more than one religion, we can project that all souls go to Hell.

With birth and death rates as they are, we can expect the number of souls in Hell to increase exponentially. Now, we look at the rate of change of the volume in Hell because Boyle's Law states that in order for the temperature and pressure in Hell to stay the same, the volume of Hell has to expand proportionately as souls are added.

This gives two possibilities:

1. If Hell is expanding at a slower rate than the rate at which souls enter Hell, then the temperature and pressure in Hell will increase until all Hell breaks loose.

2. If Hell is expanding at a rate faster than the increase of souls in Hell, then the temperature and pressure will drop until Hell freezes over.

So which is it?

If we accept the postulate given to me by Teresa during my Freshman year that, "it will be a cold day in Hell before I sleep with you", and take into account the fact that I slept with her last night, then number 2 must be true, and thus I am sure that Hell is exothermic and has already frozen over. The corollary of this theory is that since Hell has frozen over, it follows that it is not accepting any more souls and is therefore, extinct... leaving only Heaven thereby proving the existence of a divine being which explains why, last night, Teresa kept shouting "Oh my God."

THIS STUDENT RECEIVED THE ONLY "A"

The Catholics see it differently, and they quote different scriptures, many of them in which Jesus explicitly gives authority to Peter and his successors.
So you're ALL "Bible-based" I guess.
All the apostles were given the same authority. There are no apostles today. In order for one to be an apostle one has to be a witness to his resurrection. ACts Chap 1 give the qualifications for apostles, The Epistle of 1 John chap 1 implicity gives them also. No one living today meets the qualifications of an apostle.

Go to Galatians chap 2 and you will see Peter was not the Pope nor infallible as the RCC claims. Paul openly(to his face) rebuked him for being a hypocrite in his treatment of the gentiles. If Peter was the Pope, Paul would not have done that. Also go to Acts chap 8 where the church at Jerusalem had head Samaria received the gospel the church sent Peter and John down there. Had Peter been the Pope he would have done the sending instead of being sent.

BINGO!!! Which means that not only are you working from hearsay from a bunch of people who might not even have existed anyway, even if they did your baseless religious opinions aren't any better than anyone else's, period.

As usual, you quote only the parts that support your fundie Proty agenda.

The Catholics, on the other hand, quote the parts that support their theology.

Both of you are "Bible-based."

not that I've seen ... when will you supply the evidence ???
your test tube is lacking and why are you here ?????
No, it is your brain that is lacking. You cannot prove something does not exist in such a case, it is up to you to provide evidence that justifies your belief, otherwise, your belief is delusion.

In Christ's church we do not cherry pick the scriptures, we take in the whole enchilada.Scripture is not a buffet where one is to choose parts they like and reject parts they do not.
