A Trojan Horse for Creationism

Mar 8, 2013 | Posted by: roboblogger | Full story: Truthdig

I watched in shock the summer before my sophomore year of high school as my home state, Louisiana, passed a law that opened the door for the teaching of creationism.

two people loving each other is immoral? since when?
God turned them(gays and lesbians) over to a reprobate mind. They left the NATURAL use of the woman and burned in lust toward each other, the women did the same thing with other women.Rom 1:24-28. Also homosexuality falls under fornication(having sexual relations with one to whom one is not married to). in answer to your question I just provided the old 1-2 knockout punch(via God's word)

It's amazing that you took meaning from my post, which was meant as satirical gibberish. I must be smarter than I thought.

nice bible study rant.

again, the question was, how is homosexuality immoral?

Cool, so it is God's fault that some men and women are gay.

I knew it couldn't happen on its own.

Gay people are evidence for God!

Even one of the discoverers of the genetic code, the agnostic and recently deceased Francis Crick, after decades of work on deciphering it, admitted that "an honest man, armed with all the knowledge available to us now, could only state that in some sense, the origin of life appears at the moment to be almost a miracle, so many are the conditions which would have had to have been satisfied to get it going" ( Life Itself , 1981, p. 88, emphasis added).
...... gotta love it
Sleazy Christian LIAR. You're QUOTE-MINING again!

Give us the Francis Crick quote iN CONTEXT so we can see what he was really saying.

This "Evolution versus bullshit Christian creationism" debate is FULL of examples of you "Christians" pulling out a quote where Darwin or some other scientist says," Yes, it may SEEM that this looks designed or that this or that could never have come about on its own..."

You always snip the quote, though and leave out the next part or the surrounding part, where the scientist says "...HOWEVER here's what really happened," followed by a detailed explanation that requires no Jesus saying "Poof!" or any other form of "ID."

>>>>Concerned US Citizen writes:
From what I can see of creation and its laws, God is quite the intellgent designer.

>>>Topix poster "nothingUnreal" replies:

Really? If he created us in his image, just the way he wanted us, why did he not design effective error checking into the genetic code? Oh sure, there are mechanisms in the cell to prevent and correct most of the random radiation damage and catch some kinds of replication errors, but lots and lots get through. Why so sloppy? I can easily create a digital record with as much redundancy as i need, and I don't need a tree of forbidden fruit and a satan snake to keep you from poking around my code--I can encrypt it.

Now, if DNA used public key cryptography based on some base 4 number system with a little computer in the cell to read it, error check it, and flawlessly implement it, that would be evidence for a designer. But that's not what we see AT ALL.

DNA is just a set of sloppy protein recipes. It is full not just of mutations, but of duplication errors of all types, some of which lead to new functions, some of which cause failure, and most of which can corroded into nothingness, but remain forever in our genes.

A designer would occasionally refactor the code--removing the trash and normalizing things--but we don't see this either.

We see most codes for common proteins and enzymes being modified over time, even when the new forms are functionally identical to the old.

This is not something a designer would waste energy on, but it is what you expect of a mindless system that works by amplifying helpful traits, pruning harmful ones, AND IGNORING THE REST.

Compare a computer code with the genetic code.

Computer codes are not redundant: genetic codes are massively so.

Slight changes in computer codes are almost always harmful, those in genetic codes are usually neutral.

Selection does not determine which computer codes get propagated, it does for genetic codes.

Any changes in a computer code require intelligent intervention, not so for genetic codes.

Look around you. There are PLENTY of examples in our legal system where people are not held accountable for breaking the law: mental illness, extreme youth, mental retardation, or other INABILITY TO UNDERSTAND THE CONSEQUENCES OF BEHAVIOR.

And this, of course, is EXACTLY what we see in your silly, Bronze Age Bible myth of Genesis: A&E were children psychologically and morally, They did not yet understand what right and wrong is. Is was only after they ate of the fruit of the Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil that they understood that they had "sinned."

And yet your asshole God not only STILL held them responsible, but also passed the consequences on to billions and billions of subsequent human beings who had NOTHING TO DO with A&E's supposed "sin."

Say the Truth wrote:
<quoted text>
The problem is that evolution is taught as indisputable fact, and not an unproven (and probably unprovable) theory.
Really? Tell that to the evangelical Christians at Baylor University, the "largest Baptist University in the world," where the students go on mission trips, etc.

This is from the Biology Department at Baylor:
http://www.baylor.edu/biology/index.php...

Statement on Evolution

"Evolution, a foundational principle of modern biology, is supported by overwhelming scientific evidence and is accepted by the vast majority of scientists. Because it is fundamental to the understanding of modern biology, the faculty in the Biology Department at Baylor University, Waco, TX, teach evolution throughout the biology curriculum. We are in accordance with the American Association for Advancement of Science's statement on evolution. We are a science department, so we do not teach alternative hypotheses or philosophically deduced theories that cannot be tested rigorously."

Also, here from the Baylor Geology Department:
http://www.baylor.edu/geology/index.php...

Quote:
"Question: Does the fossil record support the idea of biological change over time (biological evolution)?

Yes. The fossil record clearly indicates...

• a progression in complexity of organisms from very simple fossil forms in the oldest rocks (>3.5 billion years old) to a broad spectrum from simple to complex forms in younger rocks,

• that some organisms that were once common are now extinct, and

• that the living organisms inhabiting our world today are similar (but generally not the same) as organisms represented as fossils in young sedimentary deposits, which in turn have evolutionary ancestors represented as fossils in yet older rocks.

Mammals, for example, are prevalent today and can be traced back in the fossil record for approximately 200 million years, but are not present as mammals in the fossil record before that; however, fossil forms that have reasonably been interpreted to be associated with the evolutionary precursors to mammals are found in older rocks.

Whether biological evolution occurs has not been a matter of scientific debate for more than a century. It is considered a proven fact."

End quote

Make up your mind, idiot. If the technology of the day did not EXIST in the 19th century to "unravel the mystery of where biological information comes from," then why or how could Darwin "seek to unravel the mystery"?
