Can any statement be more dubious than 'almost certain'?

The belief in the certainty of alien life is based on faith, not science. There is no evidence of extraterrestrial life.

From what I've read here about people believing in alien life without admitting that belief is faith based; intelligent life on Topix is questionable too.

The difference being, we have a probability sample. That's the point you misunderstood in Nuggin's posts on the other thread about them bugs in the Amazon. So while technically speaking you are correct in that there is no *current* evidence of extra-terrestrial life, based on what we know so far it is more likely that there is, rather than the likelihood of us being the only life in the entire universe.

Funny. Since that's not quite the argument you used on the other thread, as you disputed that multiple cases were not adequate either.

However basing something on probabilities is not faith. And accepting the possibility of either outcome (life/no life) is not faith either. But the fact remains that one of these concepts is scientific and one isn't. Care to take a guess which one it is?

You should talk to Jim Ryan. He's a scientist who is not afraid to take on established scientific dogma and let his research lead him in unorthodox directions.

They are all conjectures with no real evidence today.

But here is the difference:

1. Those who think alien life is possible do not need to cite supernatural explanations for it. Its simply a possibility based on the fact that there are 10^24 planets in the known universe, and unless the odds against life occurring are less than 1/10^24, then there could be life on some of these planets.

2. Those who think God exists have an unfortunate tendency to claim they know what He wants them to do and then try to impose it on everybody else, often by force when given the chance.
