What does that have to do with believing in God?

Nothing.

So back to the original question:

"If you don't believe in God, then nothing is real." Because...?

What does reality have to do with not believing in a god?

Why would reality be subjective without a god?

Lets test that notion.

You see a purple duck. Right there in front of you in your hallway. Is is a subjective phenomenon or an objective one? No way to know for sure. Perhaps you will ask yourself if you are crazy.

So. You sit down and pray. "God is there a purple duck in front of me?". God answers your prayer with a "Yes!" ringing out in your head. Great!!!! So you are not crazy? Mmmmmm. You start to have some doubts. Was that really God, or more self delusion?

You call your mother, your best friend, and your neighbour and ask them to come over. That purple duck is right there in front of you!

When they arrive, you ask them if they see the purple duck in your hallway. Luckily for you, they all say "Yes! There it is! How amazing, we have never seen a purple duck before! The neighbour say "I heard some animals escaped from the genomic lab up the road!"

I would guess at that point and that point only, would you be a bit more confident that the purple duck was real. So where is the root of what we call objectivity?
