WOW! I knew this guy very well throughout high school....spent a lot of time together "partying". I got sober, he didn't. Several of you got it right: his mom and dad are total enablers. Gary would wreck his car, and dad would buy him a new one. This happened SEVERAL times. And, we've known he has been a tweeker for years. Gary's oldest brother died of an overdose and his other brother, Brian, I hear, is really having some serious mental problems as well.

I think TPD should sell his BMW and with this money help pay the bills for all of the broken windows. I am glad he got cought and taken off of the streets. His mother has done him great harm by providing for him. He needed tough love, from both parents. Instead they both keep handing him money. I would like to know what kind of job his brother has.

God, some of you people are so stupid. This guy hasn't cost the city a dime. He has cost the businesses money, but they have insurance to cover most of the costs. They will have to pay the deductible only. This man belongs in a mental hospital, not a prison.
But Republicans (Governor and Legislators) don't want to spend money on mental health care and build hospitals, they want to cut that fund and build more prisons. It's absolutely crazy. Ronald Reagan closed mental hospitals and started the homeless population state wide then when he became president it became a national problem.
Get this guy some help, please. He is not really responsible for his actions, but his dad shouldn't have to foot the bill the state should.
Apparently you do NOT see the handwriting on the wall! This man's parents and Grandparents enabled him in every way. Always bailing him out of every situation. The last stop for him being the Betty Ford center. It did NOT work. It is time for him to take responsibility and go to jail. He can get his mental help there. As for the businesses of Torrance, anytime the owner, employees, are inconvienced or shut down for a period of time...be it short term or long term, they are at a lost. Also, let us not forget all the many hours the Torrance PD, along with undercover units worked to catch this scum. The Torrance PD works for the City of Torrance. You are the one who is STUPID!

I'm not sticking up for this guy and his behavior in any way. However, I would like to say a few things about the comments here. Obviously, whether due to drug use or mental "problems" or a combination of both this person isn't of sound mind. You can point your fingers at his parents all you want. I'm willing to bet that they did the best they could for him at any given time. Right or wrong, it's not uncommon for a parent to be co-dependant with their children. There's a very fine line between "helping" and "enabling" and most often times for a parent, it's difficult to see where that line is drawn. All this judgment and quick execution from all of you who lack compassion is sad. I really hope that none of you ever have to personally deal with a situation like this or similar to this with your own family members.

Call me ignorant and bash me all you want, just give my words a second thought and put yourself in other people's shoes, if even for a moment and ask yourself what would you have done for your child who needed a lot of help?

This world has become so hard and people are so quick to judge others. There's nothing good about any of it.

if he was any race but white, his bail would be a few grand, not millions. and if he were an illegal, heck, the mayor might even offer to mentor him(like some other mayor i know). i say a few years in jail are in line.
to Get It Right, your dems have had many shots to return funding ,but havent, even when a dem was gov. dems could have put it on a prop to be voted on, no, they havent even attempted it in well over 30 years. so please, go blame your own party, which has had the majority of both the house and senate along with the govenorship and still hasnt done sqat. get your head out of the sand. as i said before...libs are so open minded their brains seem to have fallen out

I don't consider myself to be a bleeding heart liberal but I do consider myself to be human. Get It Right is speaking the truth. If you want to read some interesting information about how mentally ill inmates are being address, with a high success rate, check this out:

http://community.livefrommemphis.com/_Voices-...

or read this if your attention span is what I predict it is:

http://www.commercialappeal.com/news/2009/mar...

California has a huge problem when it comes to dealing with mentally ill and drug induced mental illness. Instead of addressing it they place these people in prison where they are certainly not going to receive the medical attention they need (and as a human being, deserve).

Our prisons are overstuffed and there is NO REHABILITIATION taking place because there are no funds for it. But don't worry, your Republican governor met with Michigan prison officials last week to discuss a deal. That's right, two completely incompetent governors are attempting to ship California inmates (on California's dime) to Michigan and will have your tax dollars pay for Michigan to house and feed them. Yeah, makes a lot of sense.

His parents took care of him because his other two options were the street or jail. That's what parents do, even if it sounds like these went too far. RLA is right about mentally ill in prison and it isn't any better on the streets either, moving your rattrap RV up and down Figueroa every night or sleeping under overpasses.

What this guy needs is the right med cocktail and a suitable job for an idiot so he can pay restitution, which he won't get in jail.

All parents take heed. It is hard not to help your children when in need. Not knowing or seeing the problem is the problem. And when you do see the problem where do you go for help? It drives a parent crazy when their kids are on drugs. Most of the time there is no help and no where to go for it. These parents had money because of the hard work of the father. Who, while making all of that money didn't have time to be a parent and all of the parenting must have fallen on the mother. Just guessing from what the article has told us. The very, very best thing these parents can do is NOTHING>>>Both of them should let him face all, and I mean all of the music. Punishing, tough love may work for some by the parents. But rock bottom means NO LOVE SHOWN. Dear Parents of this poor little rich basssssssssssd take heed and show no love. That is the hardest part about growing them up saying no. Don't let him use your other son's death against you. No help and no contact and let him feel his own power to help himself. Don't deprive him anymore of finding his own power. Believe me when I tell you you will not be helping him by helping him. Cry your eyes out at night in your pillow and realize that YOU Two did not pull the trigger and bust all of those windows. IT IS NOT YOUR FAULT>>>IT IS NOT YOUR FAULT>>He knew exactly what he was doing. No matter how much money and support you have given him, I will bet he still stole money out of your purse.

That advice might work if he was 10 years old. He's 44. It's too late.

Daily Horoscope for January 4

Aquarius

You will not be satisfied in your work place, but give it some time and things will fall into place. Those in the construction business should get some good news. Aquarian homebodies will find things rather hectic and may develop a headache by the end of the day, so you should avoid negative thinking as much as possible.
