Since when does a routine traffic stop for expired tags lead to an officer searching your vehicle?

He could have given consent or the easy one... he had a suspended license. With a suspended license his car is towable and needs an inventory search prior to his vehicle being towed. This prevents him from coming in later saying that his property is missing from the vehicle.

It's very easy to get consent from a babbling, nervous meth user. Their brains and bodies have been seriously damaged from the methamphetamine abuse. Crystal Meth is one of the worst things a person can put into their body aside from drain cleaner and bug poison. The drain cleaner would help the meth user reach their goal much quicker than the crystal meth, and it should be considered an alternative to the years of misery and permanent damage caused by meth.

Well hippie, I'll tell you. If you read the article, the dumbars was driving with a suspended drivers license. That led to his car being impounded. As part of the impound, and inventory search of the car is made, thus the finding of the meth.
