Want to send the cops a message, give them jail time, otherwise just a slap on the wrist.

Sounds like hartford has at least another 6 dirty cops to keep an eye on.

"An internal police investigation concluded that Ortiz did not find the gun in a dresser drawer in Woodard's apartment, as he reported; it was discovered by another officer inside McLauglin's vehicle parked outside..."....
What a poor victim McLauglin is... Ortiz was such a bod cop..god forbid a miscommunication is made and Ortiz makes a mistake. The gun was only in her car...McLauglin's such a pillar of our community.. Hartford Police..This is what happens when you care and want to clean up Hartford's streets.. You get arrested, internalized, smeared in the media, lose your only job, etc. etc.. Hartford PD, go hide somewhere, look the other way and keep yourself safe.. You owe it to your families to stay safe, they dont want to go through what these guys are going through..Don't put them through it. You dont get paid more money for fighting crime and then getting in trouble because you made a mistake.. or else end up like Ortiz, Murtha, Lawlor, etc.. The Hartford politicians and its citizens are all anti-police and don't care about you.. Watch your backs out there and watch them more-so at police headquarters... |

Dirty Detective Ortiz, would not have walked away from criminal charges if he was in New Haven...those six Detectives supporting Dirty Detective Ortiz are probably Dirty themselves!

So what. She still had drugs and an illegal firearm. Another case of criminals having more rights than they should. If the gun would've prevented a shooting, this Officer would've been a hero. But that can never be proven.
"...added Gold who said it could mean that residents of Hartford won't come forward to help the police when a crime is committed." That's hysterical. They never come forward out of fear of street justice or because they're criminally involved to begin with! "I ain't seen nothin'" |
Another corrupt cop escapes real punishment. A city official should be held to higher standards than an ordinary citizen. Judge Gold did not even mention; perjury, drug possession, violation of civil rights & conspiracy. It is no wonder the people do not trust cops or courts.
Maybe they were there to intimidate the judge. |

why do the police get over when it comes to them.it not the first time.money always come upmissing

I know that our law enforcement agencies have a tough job. However, we all know the good is often mixed with the bad for example a basket of apples. Just recently police executed a search warrant and the house was trashed. All what was found was not turned in. This sort of action leaves a bad taste in law abiding citizens mouth. We would like to support them but they must realize that they too have to uphold the law. No one is above the law.
Was there a plea bargain in this case with an agreed upon sentence or does Judge Gold need to be replaced? No jail time and stating the majority(51% or more) of police do it honestly sounds like the judge condones police misconduct.

I think the whole issue with the Ortiz case is sloppy police work and pretty serious mistakes.. People are spinning it as if he is dirty... He's not accused of taking bribes or money or stealing drugs or anything like that... People love to hate Hartford police officers because it's sensational news and the right thing to do if youre involved in Hartford politics...

If anyone were to take a look at any one person's rap sheet, they would find that most people who go to court for their first offense (excluding murder or some other class a or b felony)get some type of non jail punishment....It just so happens when it's a cop everyone goes bannanas and cries foul....People need to realize, that it is how the system works....cops deserve the same treatment as any other citizen. I love how the liberals cry for constitutional rights but when it's a cop, or judge or polictician they want their job, their pension and an execution for a Breach of Peace. Give me a break. Ortiz did something wrong and is paying for it with his job and other court sanctions. Had he been a teacher or carpenter, he would still have his income and get the same community service.
By the way, did anyone notice that the cops still found drugs and a gun? But I guess that doesn't matter. |

Cops are supposed to know the law and and uphold the law, not be above it or beyond it. By fabricating facts, he has caused more distrust in the community where he was serving, a community that already mistrusts law enforcement for racial profiling. By not making Ortiz an example to his peers that this kind of behavior will not be tolerated, it opens up the possibility that other law enforcement agents might think that they can do the same thing if only they don't make the mistakes Ortiz made that led to him getting caught. Maybe he doesn't deserve jail time, but I hope he is fired and never hired again by any police department country-wide. |

this story sound very similar to another that just happened. i think there should be a law where statement of an informent should not be sufficiant to get home search and seized warrant on people withought actual evidence. huum hold on i think there is a law but i guess that doen't stop the judge from signing an illegal home search warrant. who do we blame?????i hate my exfriend maybe i can lie and informan information to get police to illegally invade his home.

didn't ya now that the best way to be a criminal is to become one, work for the state and get all the benifite that comes with it including a free get out of jail card if you get caught. not saying that it is all of them but those whom do want to do good can't because the dirty ones will some how involved them in something dirty. those informant out there how about tipping off people on the dirty cops do something good for your community.

Unfortunately, our politicians are either willfully blind or just plain ignorant about how many bad cops there are out there. Ironic that their primary function, and that of the police is to supposedly to defend our rights. They could care less about misconduct and rights abuses so long as the natives don't get too restless and the news people don't harp on for too long. Bad cops should be held to a higher standard, and face more severe penalties for violating the public's trust. Taking bad cops' pensions away and giving good cops strong whistle-blower protections would be a fine place to start. |

My wife was 1 of 9 women that came foward, back in 1999-2000, that were victims of physical abuse (a broken nose) and false arrest by hartford police officer Nathaniel Ortiz. She was and still is a hard working women with no prior arrest or convictions. After an internal investigation and a trial, the city of hartford awarded all nine women a large settlement. Officer Ortiz then was still allowed to continue his career in the police department. Not only as a police officer, but as an undercover. Scary...whats going on?
That's disgusting! What's going on? Same old, same old. The taxpayers pay the settlements and the rogue cops skate. |
Yeah right. You are an idiot if you believe this crap. He lied to a judge to get the warrent, he lied on his report then lied in court. If you were to do that ou would have gotten at least 4 years. BUT because this a$$hole is a cop he walks away with a slap on the wrist... Go figure. He should have gooten time in the regular population in prison, then the inmates could turn him into a ham-sandwich. |
Keep your fantasies to yourself Jeffy... At least a woman will touch me without havignt o pay her like you, or is that little boys that you like? You are a rethuglican... so little boys is probably more accurate |
