Since the Economist published an article on the problem with the people who sit in judgment, judges will be the focus of increased scrutiny. Given recent revelations this is perhaps long overdue. This story is more about Innuendo than substance.

The question should be, did the judge receive anything from the defendant's father?

Here we go again.

This guy was made a judge because he and his cronies put overwhelming pressure on the judicial system.

It wasn't because anyone thought he had any virtue of any kind.

Stay tuned for 20 more years of stories like this about this guy.

What a bunch of hooey. This judge should sue for defamation of character.

Is there any evidence of any wrongdoing? No. Just innuendo.

Unless this judge is being investigated by the FDLE (Fla Dept of Law Enforcement) I don't want to waste my time reading about it.

soundslike the father is trying to smear the judge to get his kid a lighter sentance!

Not so fast guys,
A judge has no business giving his card to anyone, Not in these times. It raises suspicion and thus an investigation. He's the third of the Kaplan's on Broward's bench a newbie and I'm sure dad has corrected him already. However There are young sharp new attorneys in the courtroom watching, every move and there careless judges as well as prosecutors
pushing their limits. Let's just say it wouldn't surprise me. Good day posters.

Not only did you waste your time reading this story, but you commented on it too. Charlie Kaplan most likely won judgeship because of his name, although he is not related to either sitting Kaplan (Stanton or Michael). By reading the news about Charlie Kaplan lately, one would have to question if he was really qualified at all for this position.

Just like this rag to make a big deal out of nothing at the expense of a respected member of the community. I only use this excrement for toilet paper....a bunch of amateurs masquerading as media. It reminds me of a high school newsletter, only those kids still have journalistic integrity..

How can she assume that the Judge was impressed??? Come on I think that sometimes people forget that after all Judges are only human Like all the rest of us and yes, sometimes they make bad judgements, but I feel she is very wrong to assume such a thing as the Judge seemed to be impressed.

By the way, he is not related to Judge Stanley Kaplan or Judge Michael Kaplan. Judge Michael Kaplan is the son of Judge Stanley Kaplan.

"Public Defender"....that term is a joke. It should be "Public Endangerer". They do more damage to the integrity of the "justice" system than anyone else. WASTE OF TAX DOLLARS. You work there when you can't get a job anywhere else....Oh yeah, and you have to grow that stupid ponytail.

What's going on with the Public Defender's office? Don't like a ruling so file a complaint? Maybe someone needs to be investigating that office.

Broward’s Public Defender is spewing more venom. The internal memo was fabricated. Ask the PD, why is her story different now then in the memo. Does it surprise anyone that this story follows yesterdays story about the same judge? This is cold, calculated character assassination. More media manipulation by the PD since yesterdays story backfired.

Finkelstein is destroying the ability for judges in Broward to exercise discretion. Soon we will have judges who adhere only to the strict sentencing guidelines promulgated by the do good legislature and State’s Attorneys.

Way to go Howard, your myopic little war against corruption is going to backfire as you continually fuel a fire that you built on lies, misrepresentations and innuendo. Eventually the truth will catch up to you.

To quote the principal from Billy Madison, "what you've just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard. At no point in your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul."

So now the PD is answering Public Record requests for internal memos. And this is an internal memo from a PD saying the Judge was too lenient? Maybe she should go work for the prosecutor's office. Then, her quote in the paper is opposite to what she wrote in her memo. Let's see, is Finklestein trying to discredit this Judge, but he really doesn't have anything? How about getting a copy of Finklestein's petition for reinstatement to the Bar after he was all drugged out? How about looking into how Finklestein refers cases to private lawyers in exchange for CASH payments? How about looking into Finklestein and the case that brought Werner Olds down? Can you spell SNITCH or RAT?

Tanya Simpson has been a lawyer for all of three months (check the Florida Bar attorney search). The author of the article should have considered the source of the memo and Tanya's willingness to be brainwashed in the Finkelstein machine. YOU GO GIRL!
