Seems to me the police aren't doing enough to fight violent crime. If this was a one time ranking i wouldn't say much, but we have ranked in the top 20 every year since 05. The message i'm getting is its Ok to commit violent crime and no one will come after you, but you better not speed or our very expensive traffic cameras will make sure you get a ticket.(and no i haven't personally got one) It just seems to me that we are focusing on the wrong crimes.Lets get our priorities straight and take our city back from these thugs and gangsters. I personally do not go anywhere without my (not so concealed) weapon. Maybe its time more people took advantage of their right to bear arms. criminals prey on the weak and defenseless, because most of them are cowards at heart."Portray yourself as a victim and you will be a victim."-someone smarter than most. Pray for peace, but prepare for war.

I don't think that it should take the police this long to clean up this town. Its disgraceful to be ranked at all for any amount of time. It's time we acknowledge that the system is broke. I don't blame the police entirely, alot of this falls on the lawmakers and the judges themselves. I understand criminals have rights, but those rights end when they begin to infringe on my rights as a citizen. stop writing tickets and start fighting real crime. The members of society need to own up to their part too. We have a good sheriff and police dept overall but they need the support of the community to be able to do the job that they do. We have to get involved and help out by reporting what we see or know to them.

2 comments? this town will never change. People are willing to comment on silly shit all day long, but no one wants to talk about an important issue like this. Everyone on here should be ashamed of themselves. If you are not part of the solution then you are part of the problem. Your paying your taxes, so stand up and demand action.

I left Jackson to find refuge in more pleasant environs. You all will be pleased to know that there are places where the Police, District Attorney's Office, Sheriff's Department, and Judges manage to work together effectively to reduce the crime rate in their communities.

Jackson suffers from many old political battles that have rendered the law enforcement community there ineffective. My experience there was the police did their job, the City Court was, and apparently still is to involved in good ol' boy politics to be effective.

The City Court has colluded with law breakers and in the process has increased the crime rate. For instance, while the rest of the nation is getting tough on domestic violence, the Jackson City Court, has charged battered women, and had them dragged into court because they were afraid to testify against the scum that beat them. It has been said that some arrested for domestic assault, never spent any time in jail, but were bonded out as soon as they arrived because of a special relationship with the judge. If the Judge was worth his salt, he would let the law work, and certainly would not be giving preferential treatment to his party buddies. Domestic Violence is a serious problem, and if left unchecked by a community, as it has in Jackson, it becomes a cancer. The police department is doing their part, the City Judge should do his.
