It's really sad that our local police have nothing better to do than bust a bunch of young people for marijuana. I wonder if they realize that marijuana has been legalized for recreational use by an overwhelming margin of voters in Colorado.

Here's a link to a poll of Birmingham residents that sums up how we feel about marijuana.

159 people voted in support of legalizing marijuana while 5 voted against it. That a pretty overwhelming margin. Yet our local police waste their time and our tax dollars running a sting operation over two days trying to bust kids for marijuana. Kids that come to our town to see a concert and pump hundreds of thousands of dollars into our community in the process. It's petty and its disgraceful. I noticed that this article didn't mention a single arrest for disorderly conduct. I would bet that you could ask any employee that worked at Oak Mt. Amphitheater last weekend and they will tell you that they didn't see a single person get out of line at either show. Sheriff Curry and his deputies should be ashamed of themselves for how they treated those kids. I guess it's much easier to catch kids smoking pot at a concert than it is to catch real criminals who are breaking serious laws.

Here's a link to the crime stats for Shelby county. Someone should point this out to Sheriff Curry so maybe he'll pull his head out of his a$$ long enough to get his priorities straight.

Someone in Shelby County is a victim of a serious crime every four hours! That means that at least 6 major crimes were committed in our county while our Sheriff's department was running a sting at Oak Mountain trying to catch kids with marijuana!
