Where's the Federal Caribbean border initiative?

Apparently, the over $30 million they caught (coming in from Venezuela) a couple of weeks ago, wasn't enough for way too much drugs is being smuggled (to keep these gangs' with a steady supply while losing $30 million).

I saw a news article the other day about Federal law enforcement agencies increasing manpower in Puerto Rico and that US Coast Guard maritime surveillance aircraft will be sent to the island ... in 2018.

The US Coast Guard is in the midst of a massive modernization program, unfortunately the states get priority and then the territories. This is why the new National Security Cutters were sent to Miami and not San Juan. Another reason why Puerto Rico needs 2 senators and 5 congressmen.

Imagine if we were an independent republic.

Chills up and down, that's what I feel.

We would be just another Caribbean narco republic with a money laundering banking system.

That is one of the things that I think scares most people away from the idea of independence. Look at Jamaica where criminal gangs more or less control the island and HM Jamaican Government can't even control Kingston, the gangs chased out the Jamaica Defense Force and the Jamaica Constabulary.

And that's just Jamaica.

We can go island by island (even British Caymans and every other European ones) and you come to the conclusion that we need the US' deep pockets to counter balance the cartels' one.
