I believe it's spelled 'Coty'. In any event, she knowingly sold her the drug(s). For that alone, she must be held accountable.

Do you really think there is a need to put to say that anyone with a certain last name is a dirt bag. I know a person with the last name cote her husband is a very hard worker and she is also..they have kids that are great kids and do very well in school..
dont you remember your mother teaching you if you dont have something nice to say dont say anything at all...
In my oppinion someone who puts people down because of their name is a NUMBER 1 dirtbag..and I dont even know your name.

It is noo secret that there is a high traffic of Heroin in the County and that Law enforcement agencies are doing there jobs but it is not the only thing in this county going on. I have read the eagle and the Transcript for most of my life. I am saddened to see such young people getting there hands on heroin and also these prescription drugs, It is apparent why it is a closely watched area in health care and in the streets to try to keep our people from harms way. I read so much about Busting people but so little on Addiction and educating the public on it and what it stems from, it has been acknowledged as a disease . Addiction. there are many forms of it and it will make people become deperate to not get sick as it will get a hold on the person and make them very ill and than they are taking these drugs to maintain themselves from becoming what is called dope sick. These people are and should be treated with empathy, Not simpathy but it is a cruel and unforgiving disease it will take all that you have and in the end results in mental, moral spiritual and physical Bankruptsy. This is an awfull way to live to have your own soul robbed bye something you think is making you feel good in the begining. However it makes people do things they would have never done if they had another way out. and the only way for those people to realize that ther is a way out is to know that they can surrendur to thier disease and reach out for help. nobody wants there friends to be sick and suffering. It is a ruthless anxioty on anyone and a parent at best will even get there own child a fix when they see them so sick. even if it means to get them to the ER and they will help. The treatment centers have closed there time spans down as to how long an addict or alcoholic can remain in treatment due to relapse offenders. it is a clear problem for america and our County. As a good neighbor and good standing member of this community it is best said to offer to help and if we all had the awareness of what this does to families and friends it might not be so dreadful for a person to pick up the phone and get help for a person they care about. but do we make this awareness Public knowledge or do we just post meetings in the back of the paper like this is a sinfull place for junkies and skid row members. Look in the mirror and ask yourself if your doing the best you can to be a good stuardt in your community or do you look and turn the other way because you think they are deadbeats and bottom feeders. I think thats insane because that might for the grace of god be your own son, daughter, father , mother ,judge, Lawyer. Someone who might save your life some day so have alittle empathy and maybe get the News Headlines to say hey there are people who do care and want to help you get you Back. I hold a moment of silence in private when I hear another sick and suffering person has died due to the hopelesness and despair they must have been in and had to get off that treadmill. My preyers are with them. I am greatfull for the men and women and families that never gave up on those in need. God Bless you all and the few in those units of healthcare that are there when someone is in need of that lifeline. As far as this women giving her friend her medecine. She has to live with that but she didn't make that person take it either. If you read the Holyoke news some kids and adults walk away after getting caught with over 200 bags of heroin in there possesion, how many people died because they were dealing. And that was blatent out right distribution.

When I said Confused I meant most of you haters. I really think thst your all ignorant to the fact that there should be more education on this stuff and the Law is there to protect us and yes your inocent untill proven guilty. according to rumor this DA is just out to rack up points on Drug abusers and has no empathy for the real problem and could care one ioda unless he is approched bye a friend with a child in trouble that voted for him. you better be ware this could be your slip on the pavement one day. He is doing a grat Job but can do more and better. So could the story getters didn't anybody watch the tribute to W Cronkite, did the reporters go talk to her and hear her out. Our community doesn't need hate it needs more education and real concern, not bashing and name calling , your showing your Ignorance and you are not much better than the one who does the wrong thing for the woron reason, some people do the wrong thing for th right reasons. but you ingoramouses calling names will never understand, this is called small minded and speaking without thinking. Gibbs would slap you on the back of your head for sure

If Capeless is going to try to convict this women on these charges then he needs to be consistent. He cant just charge this woman then not charge anyone else who sells ANY drugs to someone who dies. Multiple people overdose and die every year so where has our hero D.A. been all this time. I just think he is a joke who picks and chooses what cases to bring to trial to make himself look better. Be Consistent!!!

One person died because of the drugs that this person supplied. It has been a federal law for quite sometime that if someone dies as a result of the drugs you supplied them then you can be held accountable for the death. Massachusetts has its own Law in place that charges a person with Manslaughter for supplying drugs that result in death, however, just reported in this paper is "Holding drug suppliers criminally responsible for overdose deaths is uncommon, but not unprecedented in Massachusetts. In general, though, manslaughter convictions against drug dealers are rare. and
"This is the first time that any of us are aware that this office has brought these charges," Berkshire District Attorney David F. Capeless told The Eagle in January 2008. Most states have laws that charge for death resulting in drugs that are supplied by "dealers" or "friends". There will always be drugs but fewer people may be less apt to supply them especially to friends if they know they will be charged if someone dies. Learn more visit www.friendsdontletfriendsdie.com

What are you talking about? Capeless has been nothing but consistent on charging people who sell drugs to addicts. The problem is the family members get pissed when dealers are allowed to sell to their kin, then freak out if the dealer is their own. And by the way, there is a ton of education being done through the DAs office and places like the Brien center - tons of money is poured into treatment and education but without the third leg -- enforcement, the system will not work. The only reason we are not Holyoke is because of people like Capeless and the work he does on behalf of addicts to protect them from themselves and the dealers who prey on them. That is the truth so put it in your pipe instead of crack.

What Programs are you refering too? What money. Put your big words and money where your big mouth is about educating the public, protection from a drug or dealer is noot the issue. get the crack, heroin and everything else off the streets and , when someone needs help . or you notice it. Help them don't just rat rave rat rave. help, bunch of haters here and no real sence at all. if the media was covering this accurately they would have looked into this girls life and we wouldn't have to be sitting here waisting the internets time we would know more to be aware of who this person is and in a non judgemental way, it is hard to be objective if you know only what headlines wrote.

Well actually I gave up crack and heroin about 4 years ago and I have been in recovery ever since. And if for some reason I had died while using it would of been my fault for the choices that I made, not the drug dealers that I seeked out to get it from. Not saying that drug dealers are innocent but the person that died made a choice of her own and its her fault.
