Increase In 'Narco-Tunnels' On AZ Border

Sep 23, 2011 Full story: latino.foxnews.com 13

The number of "narcotunnels" discovered along the southern Arizona border has doubled during the 2011 fiscal year, something that authorities attribute to the desperation of the drug cartels to get their illegal products into the United States from Mexico.

When these tunnels are found, the Border Patrol should light dynamite sticks, and throw them down into the tunnels.

If there are drug cartel members, illegal aliens,in there at the time, oh well! That'll learn ya.

Critics keep saying that a better wall does not help and it is a waste to build more but the increase in tunnels and other methods to smuggle drugs, criminals and terrorists in to the United States proves that smugglers are being forced to spend more and work harder to get across the border. That in turn increases the cost of for criminals and drugs to cross the border. Just like oil, increasing the cost decreases consumption. Funny that the uber liberals pushing for increased taxes on gas to decrease consumption do not understand that increasing the cost of smuggling drugs and criminals in to the will raise the cost and decrease consumption or maybe they do. The increase in tunnels may also explain why the number of arrests are down on the border yet the number of illegals seems to be increasing as fast as ever.

The BP should have specially trained dogs to help find these tunnels. Then when found blow it up immediately without retreiving whatever might've been stashed in there. Or just pour concrete till it's sealed solid!

There is technology to find the tunnels but is very expensive (ground penatrating radar). I wonder what type of sat technology might be used to check for the presence of tunnels?

While GPR may be a bit expensive for stopping drugs if they stop a handfull of illegals it will pay for its self rather quickly.

Last week on Border Wars, the tunnels were featured. There's absolutely no good reason why our B.P. Agents should have to check them out before filling them with cement. I really don't care if Mexicans are in them.

Come on now, you really don't expect our government to use technology like this for something useful do you? Heaven forbid that the Obama would support such now do you? Sure, this tech could easily be used, however it would only further illustrate how the problem has manifested due to the feds intentional blind eye, and would further erode the liberals chances of retaining their political position. This isn't about doing what;'s right, it's all about posturing and staying in power at the expense of everything else.

I propose the following: Since they are so diligent and acclimated to being underground and tunneling, that when caught by border patrol we charge them as the criminals they are, and put them on "the chain gain", working the following mines as an underground prison workcamp, where they literally will not see the light of day:

Ajo
Bagdad
Bisbee
Benson
Douglas
Jerome
Clifton-Morenci
Mammoth
Miami
Globe
Safford
Superior
