This nation's long-term war on drugs has certainly proved with time to be a waste of numerous dollars therefore it only makes sense that a different approach has been needed for quite sometime now. When the cost of prosecution, and the length of incarceration and the overall cost to house such individuals from anywhere from a year and beyond our taxpayer dollars could be put to better use by creating new jobs and investing those dollars in upgrading and improving our state's and nation's infrastructure which is crumbling around us and at some point will no longer be a problem that can be ignored as it is now and has been for too long.

Regarding the asinine comments from that drug cop in the article he obviously speaks from firsthand knowledge when he speaks about illiteracy he as well is not immune from it. The rest of his comments strongly supports anyone who opposes racial profiling and the fallacies associated with it when one only prejudges the exterior features of any person, or ethnic group of people instead of judging all people on their actual actions if suspected of committing some criminal act.

Missouri drug cop said that people who think marijuana should be legalized are a bunch of illiterate potheads who collect welfare checks!

I totally Agree with this; this statement is Fact. I will say this though, you morons may legalize All Drugs (where you can only buy it with a special card) but this exempts you from receiving any entitlement checks (for example, 3/4's of mental disability checks are issued to former drug addicts). I loathe my hard earned tax dollars going to drug addicts!

Potheads are stupid. Anyone that does illegal drugs is an idiot. Needs a beating. That's crime. No tolerance crime policy.

Morons on the outside of any group looking into a world they're unfamiliar with except for stereotypes and judging the group as the stereotype, are pretty stupid. Many of the very smartest and well to do people I know are potheads. Not cokeheads, not heroin addicts, not meth heads or pill poppers, or drunks, but potheads. When they want to relax they get a little buzz. Thinking of professional adults as stoned stupid kids shows how disconnected from reality some people are. And arrogant. Thinking someone should be in prison or even fined hundreds o dollars over a tiny baggy of a plant substance wholly incapable of as much harm as half pint of vodka is assinine.

Pot isn't a drug it's a plant! Somebody who is fight any terminal illness should have to right to smoke it, it will help with the pain, witch so will pain pill but pain pills are a man made drug with many different chemicals in that make the highly addicting, unlike pot! It will also not make them sick to their stomach like pain pills will. And cigarettes are legal but 100% more harm full than pot!

No problem with terminal cases using. But you stupid cheeto eating losers cop out and hide behind that. Do you realize the small % of the population considered terminal that would be allowed? It's an illegal drug. You are loser. Losers do drugs. I billy whip losers and dopers. Cigs are legal so stop making dumb arguments.

In addition, new scientific research proves it's damaging effect on brain function, potentially increasing the risk for schizophrenia and other psychiatric problems. This is only ONE of many websites covering this. You have to be a moronic idiot to want to legalize drugs!http://www.medicalnewsto day.com/articles/263936.php

The Proof is well documented in History!!!!!!! And can not be denied! I hear, over and over, drug addicts claiming that alcohol is worse than drugs (even harder drugs than Marijuana). I say this is clearly BS! Just a lie repeated over and over to where some people believe it to be true; it is a propaganda ploy. To get to the point, CULTURE, CIVILIZATIONS AND PROGRESS HAVE SURVIVED ALCOHOL ... THROUGHOUT ALL DOCUMENTED HISTORY, But Drugs injected [no pun intended] into societies and countries, destroys all 3 of these. Check out our nation's Regression since te late '60's. Check out the European experience. The latest in scientific studies. You are living in a FOOL's Paradise, if you think otherwise!!!!! You drug addicts don't have to deal with the kids you leave behind, you don't have to deal the lives you have shattered, you don't have to deal with the extreme burden that you lay on the American taxpayers!!!!!!!!!!

yes, tobacco is legal, simply because its a trillion dollar industry. It kills millions of people worldwide, most of them in the most painful, ugly way possible. Pots killed NO one, but someone spent millions lobbying against it to protect their lumber industry 80yrs ago, so casual smokers get criminal records. YOU are the idiot and lowlife, supporting a cronie goverment and murderous industry that thrives on creating addicts and corpses. Dumbass. The adults you know that smoke pot(you know MANY and have NO CLUE, they're your close friends) most likely treat you better than your tobacco user pals, and smell better too. And when you're carrying your cancer eaten friends to their premature graves(don't worry they don't weigh any more than the casket and the weight of their skin and bones), your pot smoking friends and relatives will rally around you and forgive your stupid, hateful ways.

more naivette, tobacco is your gateway. I'm willing to bet my life against yours that every heroin overdoser you've ever heard of started with tobacco, and most likely didn't smoke pot. The whole dare crowd spews lies and propaganda because it serves their(minority) purpose. Its always entertaining when total homebodies who have never used even tobacco or alcohol try to claim they have the best understanding of addiction. Get stoned on some weed for a week or just be another lunatic on their soap box, raving like a doomsday nut, trying to control other peoples lives to make your arrogant selves feel better.
