Mandatory alcohol screening for drivers coming into effect in December: Halton police

Starting Dec. 18, drivers who get pulled over may be required to provide a breath sample, even if the police officer does not have a reasonable suspicion that the person operating the vehicle has consumed alcohol, Halton Region police say. The change is part of Bill C-46, new legislation that began to come into effect this past June, with officers permitted to use additional tools to perform drug tests on drivers.
