I dont see any serious harm if Palm donot interfere with what owners want to do with the phones that they bought and own, as long as they do not violate service contracts.
After all, there could be many smart techies out there better than Palm's own, and if they can bring improvements to their own gadgets, and to other users at large and Palm benefits directly or indirectly - that all can have a better phone to use now or in future - I dont see anything that Palm should do to counter these good works.
