Mr. Love avoided some important facts.
Death penalty support remains at 80%, when poling asks about truly death penalty eligible murders (1). Those who oppose executions for all crimes is at 15%(1). Both of these results come from multiple polls, over many years and with different polling groups (1);
Death sentences are at a 20 year low, because murders are at a 43 year low (2).
The worse human error would be in not executing murderers because actual innocents are better protected by the death penalty/execution than they are by life without parole, in at least three ways (3).
The 43 executions in 2012 are above the annual average for executions, since execution re-started in 1977 (4).
Gov. O'Malley is going to have a very hard time convincing anyone that he cares about the cost of the death penalty in Maryland, first, because he is to blame for the delays in executions in Maryland and, secondly, because of the complete unreliability of cost studies from that state (5).
Arkansas Gov. Beebe should try to overcome his self centeredness and look at the murder victim survivors in death penalty cases, who appear to show 95% support for the death penalty for those who murdered their loved ones - not in the abstract, but in reality.(1). Not that the governor seems concerned.
It seems the majority of the population, in all counties, may support the death penalty for some crimes (1).

LWOP is actually "more" expensive than the death penalty, and has endless appeals per inmate. There is also the cost of geriatric care to think about as well when doing calculations.
