People are waking up after the movie theatre tragedy and more murders realizing that the death penalty is necessary.
Of course it was shot down. It was a "bad" bill.

I think you overlooked the rebuttal to the anti death penalty claims, as well as the powerful support for the death penalty, found within the committee hearing.
So strong were they, that there was a delay in the voting, because it caused some to waiver.
Possibly, both truth and justice carried the day and decided the vote.
