Suicide of Death Row inmate underscores prolonged appellate process leading to delays

Full story: The Washington Post

California's automatic death penalty appeals take so long that the state's 723 condemned inmates are more likely to die of old age and infirmities - or kill themselves - than be put to death.

CA loonie tune leftists actually think it more "humane' to lock some one in a small cage with no hope of escape for life than to do the guy a solid and slip him the needle? Oy Vey!

Was it a New Jersey suicide?
You know how a New Jersey suicide works, you stab yourself in the back 10 times and then throw yourself over the guardrail.

Appeals should be 1 and done. Found guilty on a Monday, hung on the next Monday. End of story. Yes, occasionally there will be an innocent person put to death but overall, it will stop the guilty ones dead in their tracks

Actually, the state should be taken out of the business of killing people for punishment and this article points out this fact succinctly.

Yes, there will be an innocent person put to death--yet, we don't care do we, for we just feel it is someone we don't know and probably someone that has done something wrong before.

Yet, how would the feeling be if just that one was your very own child or some other person you had known all your life and know the good and decent person that he is? Can you think of the child you have known and see this happen and just say--oh well, a few will be lost? Can you think of it as being your own child? Do a web search of botched executions; see how they sometimes make such grave mistakes in the executions, look at the twitching of bodies and know that someone is watching this happen to their own son, and sometimes they are innocent.

With all the people that have been released in just recent years that were not guilty, can you believe we will not get innocent people if we only give them a week?

Ask these people that have been released after many, many years if anyone of them would rather have been put to death the first week?

I am sorry. I do not agree with you.

I agree 100%. In fact, jails are a collossal waste of taxpayer money. If you cannot co-exist in a civilized society you should not exist at all, IMO.

This is due to the shortage of the drugs needed to perform a lethal injection.

http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/2011/jan/23/l...

"...the sole American manufacturer of a drug used in lethal injections announced it was ending production." This was reported January 2011 by a number of sources.

California had resorted to getting its supply from Pakistan of all places (at least according to this article). Obama's policy of crashing planes into businesses in that country probably sharply curtailed this source.

During the Great Depression in the First Austrian Republic of the early 1930s, the CS on the basis of the Quadragesimo Anno encyclical issued by Pope Pius XI in 1931 pursued the idea of overcoming the ongoing class struggle by the implementation of a corporative form of government modelled on Italian fascism. The CS politician Engelbert Dollfuß, appointed Chancellor of Austria in 1932, on 4 March 1933 took the opportunity of the resignation of Social Democrat Karl Renner as president of the Austrian Nationalrat, after irregularities occurred during a voting process. Dollfuß called the incident a "self-elimination" (Selbstausschaltung) of the parliament and had the following meeting on March 15 defeated by the forces of the Vienna police department. His party fellow President Wilhelm Miklas with regard to Hitler's victory in the German elections of 5 March 1933 did not take any action to restore democracy.

Many are probably left to raise themselves, while their parent[s] attend to their immoral and criminal ways. But, that doesn't allow them to murder with impunity.

No it won't. It won't stop "the guilty ones dead in their tracks". In the heat of the moment of the crime the perpertrator is not thinking of "wow, will i get th death penalty?" Some are in a rage, or drug induced illusion, and some are just plain human predators.

There are people in prison that had good childhoods and good parents. It is not always the parents fault. Anyone, including yourself, can end up in prison. You are not above being placed in prison or wrongfully accused or even given the death penalty due to faulty evidence. It happens. Yes, many people belong in prison and never need to get out but not everyone in there is a "bad" person.

Would you be so kind as to select 2 or 3 from death row in any state whom you would be willing to bring into your home should they be released.

Your argument lacks merit, if a person is wrongfully accused of a crime, they not only need to be released, they need to be paid big money by the state.
