I have never wished this upon another human being as long as I have lived, but I hope and pray that this poor excuse for a man, Derris Smith, spends eternity in hell. I can only imagine the fear that was going through this innocent little boy's mind as this cruel beating took place. I am the father of three children and tonight when I go home, I am going to spend a little more time hugging my little ones. The last thing we need is for this man to go free, he needs to pay for his crimes. I hope you realize what you have done Mr. Smith and I can only pray you go where you belong. It is pergatory for you for all of eternity. You deserve to rot in hell for what you have done.

I cry everytime i think about what happened to the poor innocent little boy. No words can express how much my heart hurts. I have a little girl and can't imagine how someone could have done this. He is a monster and should be beaten slowly to death himself. He should feel nothing but pain and rot in hell for this. The mother as well should be punished. How could she lie for someone who beat her son. That's not a mother. How could she have taken so long to stop him? He swung that poor child like a bat more than once? She should rot in hell for even having someone like that around her son.

If you were beaten as a child and no one stood up for you, protected you, and convinced your parents how wrong they were, I am so sorry and I weep for you. I was, of course, being sarcastic.

The only difference between a "diciplinary little smack on the rear and a 'beating'" is the mood of the parent. It is simple a matter of degree. Either you think hitting children is ok or you don't. There is never an excuse for violence against children.

There will be child abuse until people stop hitting children, period.

If you hit your children, maybe I should pray for them.

No words to describe how this makes me feel. I believe in the death penalty for certian crimes, child abuse is one of them.

It sickens me to think of the numerous excuses advocates for the murderer will come up with in their attempt to lessen the horror of the crime. The first will be "he was abused and didn't know what he was doing was wrong or a crime". Just sick.

This story made me feel ill. I read at the bottom of the article that this isn't even the first child who was murdered in that state due to a parent freaking out over potty training. Obviously this child didn't deserve that horrible death, but considering who might have been caring for him afterward, it might have been a sort of blessing...no more abuse or pain. Poor, sweet child.
