This article is nothing more than journalistic prognostication, no one can guarantee that when this high speed rail is built that the state will no longer need to build additional freeways, airports and runways. In addition, it's just as credible to predict that the state will experience a drastic reduction in population because of ongoing budget crisis, high unemployment, economic woes and drastic cuts in services and social programs.
Therefore this pro high speed rail propaganda is just what they column says, it's an opinion without any concrete basis.

Yes, and this is just what California families need. To pay for something a very small part of the population would even use.
(By the way there is already rail travel in California, this is not like it's a new service, just a more expensive one)
God help the state and save it from bankruptcy and the 12% unemployment. Those are the issues they should be trying to solve instead of saving a commuter 1 hour on their train ride.
