In the first place, the arrest or detention was a USELESS gesture knowing that they will have to be released. It is simply a waste of time.
This kind of USELESS gesture on the part of the Japanese will cause Japan to lose the Okinawan Islands and lose the huge market in China which China can close it to punish the Japanese.
The Japanese PM Shinzo AQbe is either plains stupid or he is out of touch with Japan's business and industrial communities in China.
Toyota has heavily invested recently in the Guangzhou Nansha Economic and Technological Development zone. Toyota is building Toyota engines there.
Japan: Do not plan to become a loser, plan to prosper with the opportunity China is offering you guys.
Dumb, dumb, dumb.

Back in the real world, they were only released on bail after the Chinese government guaranteed the bail conditions.
