An Absurd Argument- Gays and Lesbians Shouldn't Be Allowed To Adopt Due To Health Concerns

There are 26 comments on the lezgetreal.com story from Jan 23, 2009, titled An Absurd Argument- Gays and Lesbians Shouldn't Be Allowed To Adopt Due To Health Concerns. In it, lezgetreal.com reports that:

The differences over homosexuality and homosexual behaviors come down, primarily, to religious belief.

However, within American culture, a purely religious argument is frowned upon. After all, we are taught that we are suppose to reject religious argument because it blurs the line between Church and State as enshrined in the First Amendment. It means that some of the arguments against homosexuality and homosexual rights often drop into the absurd. A post by Peter Sprigg on the Family Research Council blog falls into the absurd. His attack on the rationale behind Judge Lederman’s decision that the Florida ban on gay and lesbian adoption cited among its most absurd reasons for rejecting her argument that gays and lesbians are far less healthy than straight people. He bases this upon, well, a list he has found on an LGBTI site stating the health issues that gays and lesbians should bring up with their doctors. This wold be news if the list was full of disorders and diseases which only gays and lesbians suffer from.

I think the most interesting point in this article is that last statement; that opposers of homosexuality who have biblically based opposition are realizing that their biblical arguments won't fly anymore. They're stretching for other arguments, and come up with this ridiculous stuff, because aside from biblical arguments, there really is NO reason to deny gays and lesbians equal rights and equal protection under the law. There is CERTAINLY no RATIONAL (read: other than biblical) reason to disallow gay people from adopting or from marrying.

Um, Gay people who settle down and want to adopt kids are not the promiscuous type. I wonder if they would bother doing a study into Gay Adoptees health and not just "Gay Health" in general. And I don't see a Gay Couple having one or both of the partners being HIV+ as a reason to deny Gay Adoption anyway, these kids would be better off in damn Orphanages/Group Homes until a Straight person comes along? There aren't enough Single Straight people or Straight Married couples who want to Adopt, I'd like these people to actually go down to one of these places and just see how the kids live, and think about what the Recession will mean for Orphanages...

I should probably just walk away from this, this is something that gets me really angry.

Just mentioning Peter Spriggs of the poorly named Family Research Council makes use of the word absurd redundant. In fact, just saying the name of Paul Cameron's attack monkey also makes mentioning words and phrases like, irrational, sick, twisted, distorted facts, bald-faced lies and raving lunatic completely redundant. This after all is the man who shockingly outed SpongeBob Squarepants. Given the FRC's all too well documented track record of playing fast and loose with the truth, if not just plain making sh*t up, what amazes me is that anyone takes this group anywhere near seriously.

Sad, isn't it? "Wow! Look at this! I can still be a bigot and I've got this doctor's words to back me up!"

I can't help but wonder what in these self-proclaimed leaders pasts causes them to get so worked up over "the gays"? Who would spend their entire time on this earth fixated on nothing but anti-gay rhetoric?

Then you should avoid doing it. As far as I know, it's not mandatory!

As for alcoholism, the stupid attitudes towards homosexuality would drive anyone to drink or drugs and all people, gay or straight, are susceptible. Otherwise, there's no relation!

And not legal in his country due to idiots like him. Their Supreme Court is forward thinking but a lot of Indians are mired in a mixture of Hindu fundamentalism and Victorian attitudes left over from the Raj.

Talk about your absurd arguments. Gay people should not be allowed to adopt, because ugly, mean-spirited, hate-filled people like you unfortunately exist. Don't you realize (and I know this is a bad question, because it's obvious to everyone that you don't), that it reflects rather badly on you as a "person" when you "reasoning" is based on a problem that you cause?

gays shouldn't be allowed to adopt because straight people can't teach their children manners?

Anyone who dwells on this as the main theme of being gay is either deluding himself or maybe just anti-social. Virgins can be gay. Any sexual act is not what makes someone gay. Lesbians do not practice your fantasy very much (although I am not an expert so I might be wrong). We know that heteros practice this. Get off your high horse (or are you behind him?).
