While new to Summit County, this still strikes me as a long term plan. There seems to be plenty of vacant commercial space in the SC/WC area today, and you have to wonder if there is sufficent population to support a warehouse club....
As many brick and mortar retail businesses are trimming hours, or closing facilities they opened during the bubble, one must wonder if there is sufficient business volume to justify new construction. Let's hope that serious critical thinking goes into the planning process. As taxpayers, shouldn't we expect it?

Nice to see this project finally come together. It's the right project, right size in the right place. Nice work negotiating the size down. We need a Costco and a Target would also be nice.

About time. The delays and lack of focus on the servicemen and women are criminal. Time to stop bickering, unite in support of this noble cause, and "Git er dun".

The servicemen and women are windowdressing for this "Music-Man" inspired boondoggle.
They are an excuse. They are being used to make this "patriotic" endeavor.
Criticize Costco, and you hate the troops.
What an unbelievable scam.
Give the troops vouchers for available space, if it about the troops. Build nothing.
Or, if it about a handlful of insiders scamming the system, wave your flag, sell, contract, build, grab your cut, and run.

People with great ideas about how to do it better are a dime a dozen... People who put there money where there mouth is haven't shown up. Vouchers for available rooms? Cool...when? It's been 10 years; the troops are waiting. The Snyderville deal provides that money for the rooms. Put up or shut up...

A number of years ago an article appeared in W Magazine about the amount of retail space in NYC as opposed to the retail space in Utah per-capita. Surprisingly there was far more retail store front in Utah than NYC! Are we trying to bring that figure even higher. How thin can we spread our dollars? No one benefits from that. How far are we willing to go to diminish the beauty of our mountain village? Its all but disappearing. Hotels are not filled as it is. One of the best in town is in bankruptcy. Somethings out of whack here.

As Parkites in town we are opposed and disgusted. Keep Costco in SLC and let people travel there. We dont want it nor do we need it!

I'm very pro-military and think its great that the military should have a way to enjoy a ski resort area BUT I am very opposed to any big box retail outlets in or around the Park City area. If people really want to shop at this type of place they can go to Salt Lake. Why take away from the scenery as well as the other businesses in Park City?

Exactly, plus, let's keep in mind the existing room base is mostly partial ownership vs. traditional hotel rooms. This is a good project now and we should all support it. Our officials did a good job of staying in the game and getting the community some good things in return. Growth is inevitable. This project incorporates some good growth components for our community.

Why "Amen", are the COSTCO impacts that you refer to only for "those people"? How biased, put it in THEIR community not mine. Most of us are traveling to COSTCO anyway, why not have it closer and reduce the air emissions. You're a typical NIMBY.

Other suburbs have Costcos, why not Park City? Anyone living under the illusion that this is a "mountain village" hasn't been paying attention for the last 30 years...Park City is West Jordan is Sandy is Draper etc etc. There is nothing "rural" or small-town. YOU LIVE IN THE SUBURBS. It's why you moved here...otherwise, you'd be living in Telluride, Steamboat, Big Sky...but you like your city life. Just don't let your delusions impact the reality that YOU LIVE IN A SALT LAKE SUBURB!!

Ummmmm. No. Park City is not West Jordan. We can buy beer 24/7 here. Why do you insist on such nonsene? I mean, you can believe whatever you wish, but I must decline the sharing of your odd view.

Population Explosion

Salt Lake City, UT

#17 Feb 1, 2011
Let's face it ... the population continues to grow. No town can remain rural forever as long as the population continues to increase. Utah has one of the fastest population increases both from immigration, and the families that pop out kids like they come from a Pez dispenser. Suburban sprawl is a fact of life unless people slow down their breeding.
