You gotta be freakin kidding me...He hit her with the truck because he wanted to. She jumped out because she was trying to get away from him.He had bad intentions from the very start.I bet her body would tell a whole lot more of what really went on.I believe she is buried somewhere,A body doesn't just float away and dissapear around Kualoa.Tides and current around there won't let it.HE IS STILL LYING TO SAVE WHAT LITTLE OF HIS ASS HE STILL HAS.

Something's fishy. I think the guy put the body in the ocean so that no one would find her for an autopsy. If the body can be found, it'll show that Lankford really killed the poor girl. As a matter of fact, what was Ms. Watanabe doing there in the first place, since she couldn't speak much English. Why'd they drop her off so far away from home? Something's not right here. I think someone should investigate the person who dropped her off. Was Ms. Watanabe a nuisance to her caretakers? I haven't heard much about her family or the people she was entrusted to. What's up with that?
You don't get it, the evidence Lankford is citing for the body dump in the ocean does not support it. Night time near midnight, high tide, current, no cuts on barefeet after walking a long way on the coral bottom, no light source, holes, uneven bottom...no can happen. He buried her ON LAND, he's not telling where so there will never be a body to examine!

This guy and/or his attorney are real smart. The evidence presented by the prosecution got him dead. Best defense is to use the prosecution's case and give a different version to cause "REASONABLE DOUBT" with the jury! Gross, unfair, bullsnot, outright lies; but it's a BRILLIANT DEFENSIVE strategy.

Yeah, dump her in the ocean @ Kualoa? Ummmm, everyone who lives on the Windward side knows if you were to dump ANYTHING @ Kualoa, it comes right back onshore. Its ONSHORE wind and current!!What a stupid a$$:)
Either way, he is still GUILTY and RESPONSIBLE for her death.
Oh yeah, was there any damage to the work vehicle???

Now watch as one of our local juries deadlocks on whether this guy should be held accountable for the victim's death and decides to find him guilty of "failure to report a death" and leaving a trash bag in the ocean!

I can't remember the original story - didn't someone see her climb into his truck? Or was that speculation? B/c I mean a better story would be to just say he accidentally hit her with is truck and he freaked out, put her in the cab, and she died from her injuries. But I guess that would imply that he still, even if inadvertently, killed her. By saying she 'did it herself' by "hitting her head on a rock when she bailed out" makes him (in his eyes anyway) not responsible for her death. I think it's plausible - the way MANY people drive around here - that he hit her and freaked out but why does he dig himself in this hole with the BS about her jumping out of the truck and hitting her head on a rock.???

I can't believe that he thought more of losing his job as oppose to taking Masumi to the hospital. So, he thinks that putting her in the ocean would be a very peaceful gesture to do. Yeh...right!!!
What about her family who just wants to take her home and lay her to rest there where she was born and raised.
This guy is an animal. He answers to God!!

I am sure he feels real bad about what happened, assuming he is guilty. Hasn't everyone suffered enough here? Time to forgive and forget.

Seems almost believable except that there is no DNA evidence (or even blood) on the rock that she supposedly hit her head on. I can see how a person in panic would do something as desperate as jumping out of a moving truck. Lankford is guilty of a number of crimes and being unbelievably stupid. But I'm not convinced yet if he's guilty of murder. Maybe he should be convicted anyway because he's an idiot.
Problem is that Lankford made sure that no evidence would ever be found to back up his side of the story. But Watanabe's glasses and DNA were found in his truck. He admits to getting rid of the body. To me, that says only one thing....GUILTY AS CHARGED, YOUR HONOR! The prosecution and Lankford's own testimony puts this case beyond a reasonable doubt.

Yes... I was wondering the same thing. Why did this girl jump out of his truck? One can only imagine why someone would jump out of a car or truck! He fails to tell what he was doing that scared her into jumping. Again, one can only imagine. And, driving around with a dead body in your truck while you are transporting your wife and child to church... what the heck! Talk about cold! This is a sad case to be sure. Like all of these things you will have families and loved ones effected for the rest of their lives because of what this guy did.
And if a woman you hit with your truck starts freaking out as you're trying to drive her home, why in the world would you speed up, as Lankford claims? In this situation, I would tend to slow my car and even pull over, wouldn't you? Lankford's story stinks to high heaven. I can only pray that the jury isn't taken in by this lame story.

I fish at Chinaman's Hat alot. And I know that there's only one spot in that area where an object would be taken out to sea by the tide. So you know what that means? I hope for your sake Mr. Lankford, that you know where that spot is.

If Lankford was not caught in his attempt to bury Masumi's body, he would have continued and escalated with more sexual assaults and killing more women on Oahu. Garrans! Hawai'i is indebted to Masumi's sacrifice.

In his testimony today he complained about how HPD treated him and his family. He went on to say that he was NOT treated with INTEGRITY, RESPECT AND FAIRNESS, HPD's three main principles. Are you freakin kidding me??? This guy is toast.

OJ would go...don't let this one! All you jury members; if you take this guy's testimony; think about what the unheard words of the victim would have told you by standing at the burial site near the ocean. Let the sound of the water and wind tell the truth; in the night and darkness blind any lies. This is her voice now...go to her and listen...then make a choice. Make a difference in justice; for all...even for the ones gone. Take a field trip during the hours of "burial", let the spirits speak...enough said.
