To avoid offending anyone, should your Christmas be merry or your holiday happy?

Is the appropriate greeting for the season "Merry Christmas" or "Happy Holidays?" Local residents of various creeds say political correctness has less to do with the words than the feeling behind them. Full Story

So, some Christians are now trying to force Christmas down the throats of everyone again by implying a boycott of stores that don't put the words "Christmas" in the ads or decorations?

I guess its irrelevant that they all turn a religious holiday into a greedy, money making affair

What difference does it make? Say what you want to whoever and move on.

I've now stopped caring if I've offended people. I don't let that consume me anymore. You'll always offend someone without trying, so you might as well live life the way you want.

Merry Christmas, Happy Hanukkah etc....

Thanks to the PO for publishing a list of businesses that don't allow the word "Christmas" to be used. I'll be making some changes in where I shop and where I have prescriptions filled.

Respect for all beliefs is important, but this is
a Christian holiday, and to see businesses that make tons of money from it refuse to allow their employees to use the word---well, that makes me angry.

Before all of this nonsense started I would wish everyone a happy holiday to cover Christmas and New Years. Now, this NONSENSE has me thinking, what should I say, before I say anything. Sad.

Merry Christmas to those, who like myself, celebrate the birth of Christ. Happy Holidays to everyone that celebrates something different. Just because you do not follow my traditions, does not make you evil. I hope everyone enjoys their time with their loved ones.

Go back and re-read the article - that was a list of businesses who DO use "Christmas", not what you think.

I still don't understand why Mr. Silverman, an atheist, would celebrate the a soltice which is celebrated by Wiccans and Druids among others. Maybe he's a secret Pagan...no shame in that if he is,he should own it.
I say go with whatever religion you are, unless you know the other's relgion.

Jesus is the reason for the season, and I will "not" take Christ out of Christmas...I however do not agree with your crack at the Muslims. I dont agree with they have done or are doing, but its not our place to judge them, It's God's..........Merry Christmas one and all

Appears you need to go and re read the article and send an apology to fair and balanced. The first part of the list is the FOR part and farther down it swithces to AGAINST part. Your oversight is exactly what I think the editor wanted to be able to report the truth but for the ignorant faced paced society that doesnt do a thorough job in reading and being careful was able to put the naughty list right in with the good list to make you think they are pro Christmans when they are not. Shame on you for being bad this year. Coal and sticks for your stocking (Might not be a bad thing considering the prices of heat and it is darn cold out)

Did you even READ the article? The Muslim cleric could not have been more gracious and kind toward Christians and Christmas.

This sort of unprovoked attack is exactly what rightly brings hostility on Christians. When you are hateful, you are acting contrary to your faith and you bring hostility on yourself and other Christians.

Another hateful attacker who didn't bother to read the article.

Since you didn't read it, here's what "the Muslim community thinks."

"Akram Khalid, president of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community in central Pennsylvania, said he does not object to someone wishing him "Merry Christmas," even though most Muslims do not celebrate the birth of Jesus.

"There's nothing wrong with that," Khalid said. "If somebody is happy with that, I don't mind. Islam teaches humility first. When God sent man on earth, he was to live peacefully."

My Opinion, YOU are the problem. YOU are the one making Christmas ugly and contentious. YOU are a ridiculous bigot and any grief you get from anyone, you deserve.

"Xmas actually is derived from the Greek letter "X" (chi), the first letter in the Greek word for Christ, and the old English word for mass."

Thank you for pointing that out to the ignorant masses, Mr. Hook!

It's amazing how many Christians are not aware of this, and truly believe "X-mas" is some sort of secular way of "taking Christ out of Christmas."

My favorite part of the holiday season has to be the boycotts called for by conservative organization that say "happy holidays."

How can ANYONE be offended by a greeting during the holidays? Like Silverman said, as long as it's not just someone being snide, you have to be a real scrooge to be annoyed by a greeting.

Happy Whatever You Celebrate!
