they are liberals
they want the sales tax money to avoid having to confront un/underfunded pension problem or future cuts to social/community development programs

on the other hand they can easily be rolled by activists and friedman the trust fund baby that gives them campaign dollars is one of the pied pipers with his new lastest shiny crusade

feel sorry for the merchants on fourth street
i don't have a dog in this race
never shopped at a target
never likely will
but on the other hand i look around 4th street and downtown and see the marginal types wandering and loitering and read the crime reports with all the petty thefts and assaults which cluster downtown
that plus the parking meters
the city council bears a large share of the responsibility for this letting downtown become increasingly a homeless magnet for many i suspect are from outside Marin and look rundown
can't say i'd blame folks for bypassing this hassle and just drive to target for one stop shopping
doubt its cheaper prices as much as the convenience and cleaner environment
