How about no. Anyone lighting absinthe on fire, for any reason, is committing the biggest faux pas they can in the absinthe world.

The fire ritual was started by people swindling tourists with fake absinthe in the 1990s. They needed to attract attention to their fauxsinthe so they lit it on fire.

Just use sugar and water. Generally 3 to 5 parts water to 1 part absinthe depending on the proof (ABV) of the absinthe.
