A Walmart might not be so bad in this area but not at Exit 14. At least, Lowe's found a place in the Abingdon area. Are they moving from Exit 7? I heard they were.

Ya got me. So why not Exit 14? That ramp situation could definitely use some work seeing as it is the main on ramp for the traffic of US 19, and I heard that the developer offered to try to have it fixed.

Personally I think it would be better out at 19 which has much more area to actually expand, much like exit 7 did. Or somewhere near exit 22.
sorry

I noticed that they are building a Lowes out at exit 19, and I don't hear you anti-wally worlders screaming about that. I have news for you, a Wally World isn't far behind, and personally I don't mind a bit, I'm getting tired of the only department stores in this town being an over priced and junky K'mart, a bit better but not by much Magic Mart, and a better left for dead Roses.
I don't shop at the over priced local merchants anyway, because they usually try to appeal to the more well to do in this town, and shun the lesser income individuals. If I honestly thought that some of these places actually were interested in my business I would frequent their establishments; however, as I can't afford their wares then I guess I'm stuck with Wally World or Target.
The true individual establishments in this town that still catered to the little man died out long ago, most likely when the shopping centers went in, and not a peep was heard. Now all that is left are the specialty shops, and you can keep them up yourselves anti-Wal-marters. Remember only you can keep overpriced exclusive specialty shops in business, I travel to exit 7 just to avoid them.
Others may disagree, but I agree with every word of your post

WalMart has to resolve the exit 14 traffic issues at its considerable expense. While we wait for the new WallyWorld, there's a new Sears with great pricing and nice associates in the mall next to Abingdon high school. They have most appliances and garden tools and shop items. What they don't have they can order. Great place, good prices. Give 'em a chance.

Where is there a mall next to the high school. I've been to malls and let me say that the "establishment" next to Abingdon High School bears absolutely no resemblence to a mall.

A better fit for Abingdon would be for Walmart to be built at exit 17, near Lowes. This exit already has the "Walmart Look." Bringing jobs is certainly a desirable thing.

I have confidence that Walmart would be able to purchase enough property in the area if they deemed that was a more suitable location. But, since you ask, isn't there a trailer park along there somewhere that might be a suitable location?

Why get rid of the trailer park? Why not take your house for the location? Do you have a problem with people who live in trailer parks? I have an idea. Take Country Club Estates and put a
Wal Mart there.

Hey they just got rid of an old folks home for the Lowes, why not a trailer park? Maybe we the poor should just move out of Abingdon so the well to do and the lawyers won't have to mingle with the trash. LOL!

I say put the Wally World at exit 19 behind the Pizza plus. Heck just put a whole shopping center back there.

As for the Sears, I have actually gone in there and while they do have appliances tools etc. Their selection is just so so, and who orders stuff from Sears anymore? And no what Roses and Sears is in is in no way a mall, it is a shopping center, and a rather lack luster one at that. I have an idea let's tear down the school and put the Wal-mart there. Those kids don't need to be educated to work at Wal-mart. LOL! I'm kidding folks.

Exit 17 is already enough of a nightmare to deal with without a Wally World. Exit 19 or 22 would be the better choice, due to there being nothing out there, and for the most part we won't be displacing too many poor from the little bit of home that they have.

You may have a point there, hillbilly. As for the shop ctr, we call them "strip malls" or "strip centers" where there are lots of them.

I also agree with your statement 100%.

As for my own thoughts: Knowing that where there's a Lowe's, usually there's a Wal-Mart right next door. I opposed to the Wal-Mart at Exit 14, but I think Exit 19 would be a better location, especially for the Meadowview/Emory communities. They have to drive to Bristol or Marion just to go to Wal-Mart. An Exit 19 Wal-Mart would also provide many much-needed jobs for our area.
agree with alot of you

Omg have u noticed all these empty spots here in abingdon. Look up to food lion ctr 3 empty spaces, out on Porterfield Hwy geez one ctr only has 1 expensive ladies store and several others. Abingdon doesn't care about creating jobs. All they care about is the RICH....People around here need jobs more than anything and walmart does have that on all these other places. Amen to you guy writing on here.
Please Garrett Jackson let Walmart come in Abingdon give them the building permit LOL

I second that nomination! LOL! The only problem is that you will give the snobs and local Christians a heart attack if you even think about putting one of those in. LOL!

Daily Horoscope for December 23

Aquarius

Someone is being bombastic and overbearing, and you don't like it. You aren't prepared to take their behavior lying down, but standing up to them is likely to result in a rip-roaring row. Well, it seems that the row is almost inevitable, and perhaps that's just as well because it won't do you any good to swallow your anger or tolerate this person's boorishness for much longer.
