Yes open it now for two reasons . 1) Keep the thieves out of Novato 2) Give the sales tax where it belongs to San Rafael. We would need less cops here in Novato and the crooks could just fly across the bridge and be home in 8 minutes with the goodie bags they lifted .

Ok, aside from United Market - with a whopping ONE store in San Rafael - what "mom & pop" stores are in downtown San Rafael? Nail shops don't count.

in the end it will be about the taxes it generates.

Everyone crying about unemployment. Here's a opportunity to create more jobs in Marin. It's America and that means free enterprise. Target isn't doing anything illegal. Again, follow the money. All the merchants in the proximity oppose it because it will cut into their wallet. It will bring revenue into the county. Look at the area now. It just sits there dormant. I think it would be advantageous for the city of San Rafael. Heck, it might bring revenue into the surrounding areas. Leaving Target, I might consider buying a BMW. Lets go for it.

"The Loop" is a failure.
Targets customers will grid lock this roadway.
As evidence, just look to the current construction and back up.
Twenty minutes from Kerner to Francisco.

Planning will need to an on ramp directly to 580 and the merge to 101 ... in a solid effort to have additional traffic not added to "The Loop".

Or eliminate "The Loop" and return the roads to two way traffic as it was for fifty years.
Are you listening?

Target estimates it would generate $675,000 in annual sales tax revenue for San Rafael and would employ 150 to 250.
That money would line the pockets of San Rafael Employees and gut out all the other grocery store people.. Have a heart Chamber of Commerce and DONT spread the profit for existing businesses so thin. Your answer to folks going to novato and losing that tax money is lame. It will only dilute the whole market

Redundant thread gets redundant comments:

In another attempt to toss their burden onto us, Target dumps their toxic waste in our landfills illegally. http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi...

Target doesn't pay living wages therefor it is a lie to suggest that they bring any new jobs to an area.

It has been said that a company like WAL*MART (such as Target) costs taxpayers over $1557000000 per year.

Better grade of crappy stuff. These kind of stores belong in places like Novato, Petaluma and Vallejo.

so if Target wants to come into town, let them , they are buying the land to put the store on, so let them. then look at the prices of stuff at Kmart and Target . Target is better and has the help in the store if you need help . if they buy the land and build the store it is not going to be a empty store .

Why? Because San Rafael is a utopia of beauty? Puhleeze!

Next to Home Depot is a perfect location and a good thing for everyone who lives in and south of San Rafael.

Very Good Point!! Did United Market scream about that??

United Market owner is like a spoiled child that doesn't want to share his toys. He wants all the "riches" for himself. I can't blame him, but a Target in San Rafael, next to Home Depot, is a good thing for the majority and that should be the deciding factor.

at least Target is better than Kmart . both stores sell same stuff and Targets prices are better. I do price shop for things, if the store a couple of miles away from each other and if I am going to be in that area to shop next door for something then I will buy at the better price .
