Please investigate both sides before you air a story, if not it can be damaging to ones reputation. I am appalled by the news story. Do a little homework before you just take HSUS word for it, your info is inaccurate and pretty much a down right lie.
Blood Hounds??? We don’t hunt blood hounds. Just trying to make it sound worse than it is, that really makes me mad. We are running fox hounds. I love nothing else to hear the dogs run. If I liked killing animals I would hunt outside of the pen with a gun. It’s all about the love of watching your dogs work and running a track. At field trials no points are awarded for catching a fox. If a dog catches a fox they are scratched and disqualified from the hunt. Would we bring out kids and family to these facilities if it was a blood sport. We wouldn’t subject our kids to that. Kids don’t see dogs catching foxes cause it hardly ever happens. I have never been to a field trial and watched the dogs catch a fox and I have been to a whole lot of them.
3,600 foxes died in pens in VA over the last 3 years, that’s crap, get the facts straight. 3,600 / 48 fox pens / 3 years. That’s only 25 foxes per Pen in VA. Hasn’t it ever occurred to you that foxes escape out of the pen. The fence does get knocked down during storms, foxes make holes in the fence and get out. We hardly ever catch foxes with our dogs. Stop trying to make our sport out something to be that it’s not so HSUS can push it’s agenda on everyone to band all hunting and reduce meat consumption. They wanna start with fox pens as a stepping stone to ban all hound hunting.
Also Marsden knows nothing about fox pens. He has been to one in his whole life. But yet he is an expert. Dogs aren’t judged for killing a fox Senator Marsden.
Also your video shows a dogs catching a coyote. We don’t even have coyotes in fox pens in VA. If we catch foxes all the time with our dogs. Why isn’t there any videos from the state of VA with foxes and not coyotes. HSUS has been using the same video for years, they use it in several states as if it happened in the state they use it in at the time, the old smoking mirrors trick. We love our dogs, we love our foxes, we love our sport. Leave us alone. Why don’t you guys help homeless people, help find a cure of cancer, do something to stimulate the economy instead of hindering the economy driving down the meat market and trying to hurt hunting sports.
Here is a little background on HSUS.

I just want to take a few minutes to explain an issue concerning Foxhound Training Preserves or as the Richmond Times and the HSUS (Humanse Society of the United States) has coined it "Fox Penning". The HSUS has introduced the bills HB695 and SB202 to have all the Preserves in VA shut down. HB695 was shot down, but the Senate will vote on SB202 on Thursday in Richmond. If this passes all Foxhound Training Preserves in VA will be shut down.
To all that know me surely know I love animals and would never stand for any type of cruelty to an animal domestic or wild. Field trialing hounds in the enclosures is a safe place to test your hounds ability to pick up a scent and track it. The purpose is NOT to hunt down and kill the fox. No one wants that. A study was done by the Virginia Department of Game and Inland Fisheries for six months and it found that the average chase lasted about 15 min. and no foxes were harmed or killed during the study. There are safehouses all through the enclosure for the fox and they know where every single one of them are. Very rarely is a fox killed. Enclosures range from 300 to 1000 acres. They are not small pens that have a fox and we dump dogs on them as the paper and HSUS would like for you to believe. The enclosures are well maintained and the fox are vaccinated, have rabies shots, wormed, and get and any medications they may need. They are fed daily, and are in excellent health. Better than fox on the outside. They are protected from preditors and disease such as rabies and mange to name two. They have an equal or greater life span than those in woods.
The enclosures are to protect the hounds which are like family to us. The enclosures keep them from running on landowners property and to keep them from being hit on the roads and highways. They are beautiful hounds and are very well taken care of and are as gentle as can be. They are not trained killers as the paper and HSUS wants folks to believe. They are beautiful dogs owned by some great folks that are being unfairly targeted by animal extremists. I understand that folks who have never been to a field trial may have believed the garbage that was printed and think what they have read is true. Please let me assure you it is not. The enclosures are monitered by the Virginia Game Department and are inspected to make sure everything is as it should be. The video they are showing is something that was not even filmed in VA and is not even a fox. It is a coyote from somewhere in GA. Coyote are not allowed in Pens in the State of VA.
Something else that everyone should know is that alot of money has been raised by these folks to help others in time of need. I myself had the "Run for Mandy Hunt" that raised money to help a beautiful young lady from Colonial Heights who was in a car accident. Houndsman from all over the United States came to help by running their hounds and they graciously donated alot to help this young lady with entry fees, pig pickin, raffles, bench shows etc etc..... They all cared so much for this young woman and still to this day ask about her. I still give them updates on her progress. Also, there is the K-9 for Cancer Hunts that help families who have loved ones battling Cancer. We also had one to raise money for a young child battling Fanconi Anemia. Also, one for a family who lost everything in a fire (no Insurance). The list goes on and on. Does this sound like a bunch of Michael Vicks as we have been painted to be???? I think not.
I just wanted to take the time to explain our side of this. The RTD and the HSUS has made so many untrue and UNJUST statements that I felt I need to tell you the truth.
The Foxhound Training Preserves are family friendly and a wholesome place to teach your children about the outdoors. Debbie

Dear Governor McDonnell,

Fox Penning is a cruel blood-sport that is allowed in Virginia, along with 19 other states. Virginia is one of the states with the best animal welfare legislation, yet foxes in Virginia suffer everyday, especially during hunting season from repeated acts of cruelty.

Foxes are captured and traded across state lines to be thrown in a 100-acre pen with no way to escape while they are chased, hunted down, and ripped apart by hounds.

I ask Virginia to ban this cruel blood-sport. Regrettably, until this senseless barbarism ceases, I would be unable to consider Virginia a recreation or vacation destination.

Thank you for taking the time to consider this vital appeal.

Sincerely,Neil

Please get the details correct before you publish. I understand this to be a supposed means for training fox hounds not blood hounds. From everything I hear it is horrible blood sport for purpose of betting and drinking- nothing sporting about for the hunted animals or the abused dogs used painted with numbers to allow the bettors to determine the most vicious and payouts to those who are participating in wagers for each contest. Really have you all nothing better to do?

This is unbelievable! If dogs are good hunters they will find scent and chase a fox (or whatever). What is the sport in killing anything that cannot possibly get away? We have lost our minds with the idea that we are entitled, or have the right to do these kinds of horrific things. Shame on us all.

I beg for this blood-sport to be banned and heavy penalties for those who continue this mean spirited act.
