This Indiana School's Gay-Straight Alliance Can't Call Itself 'Gay'

There are 30 comments on the TheDailyBeast.com story from Thursday Dec 6, titled This Indiana School's Gay-Straight Alliance Can't Call Itself 'Gay'. In it, TheDailyBeast.com reports that:

Leo Jr. Sr. High School's club for LGBT students can't call itself a 'gay-straight alliance' or even a 'GSA,' a new suit claims, and can't use the word 'Pride' to mean LGBT Pride. But according to a new lawsuit from the American Civil Liberties Union of Indiana, this school's club for LGBT students and their allies isn't allowed to call itself a "gay-straight alliance" or even a "GSA," and is instead only permitted to refer to itself as a "Pride Alliance."

This is just too funny! The club can't use "Pride" to mean LGBT Pride. But they can call themselves a "Pride Alliance". LOL.

I applaud the Leo Jr. Sr. High School for the way they handled this!!

These so called "gay-straight alliances" need to be banned altogether in all schools.

Why are they even called "gay-straight alliances"? There's nothing straight about it. No self-respecting straight kid would be caught dead joining one of these queer clubs.

I knew my donations to the ACLU would not be wasted. Lawsuits like this, and a nice tax deduction, too. A double whammy for my bucks.

What would you know about self-respecting straight kids?

Just because YOU are an extremely irrational ignorant bigot doesn't mean most (allegedly) straight people are. If you think most people are like you, you're even more delusional than I thought.

And do not forget that the school will probably be making a financial contribution paying lawyer fees to the ACLU and then settling with the school's new Gay-Straight Alliance when the school district loses in court.

Win, win, Win & Win!

To ban the Gay-Straight Alliance (currently known as the Leo Pride Alliance), the school would need to ban and close ALL student extracurricular clubs.

I was going to point out that this would mean closing a bible/prayer club. But I checked my facts and learned that there is no such club at the school.

I did find the Students Sharing Hearts club. I wonder what this club does. Sounds like a dating club to me.

Was a good band. Dead Boys had better energy. Ramones will always take remain #1. But agree, RIP Pete. Funny how music can bring us all together!

the Dead Boys were great. I liked some of the Lords of the New Church stuff too. My favorite punk band of course was the Sex Pistols. I saw them at Red Rocks (Johnny, Steve, Paul and Glen). Never had the chance to see them back in the day with Sid. I saw the Ramones plenty of times too at CBGBs, the Stone Pony in Asbury Park. They are all dead now. Did you like The New York Dolls at all? Johnny Thunders?

The Dolls just never flipped my trigger. I had friends who listened to them, but I never liked them enough to buy any of their records....and in those days, it was vinyl! LOL Richard Hell was another I liked, but I think there was only one record. I still have all my records. I need to dig some of those out and crank up the turn table!! Loved Patti Smith...hairy armpits and all. LOL
