I would consider myself an atheist as far as religious beliefs go. That being said, I do not see how the cross is hurting anyone. Why is it that some people have nothing better to do with themselves, that they have to ruin things for everyone else. I have never appreciated it when religious people try to push their beliefs on you, but I do not see a cross hanging on a tower as pushing beliefs. What I do see as pushing one's beliefs are these people who are trying to remove the cross. What's next, are they going to try to have Bethlehem change the name of their city because of the religious connotation. I am surprised the can still call it the "Christmas City"

I can't believe this is an issue for someone most likely whoever has a problem with this is an athiest or are the ones that say that under god should be taking out of the pledge of allegence

I can not believe that these people want to make a law suit out of a cross. I think these people need to get a life. This cross has been atop Mt Penn for years if you do not want to look at it then don't. Maybe this world needs some more religon it would be a better place. There are so many issues to be addressed in the world I think the ACLU could find something else to be concerned with. Was it one person who complained or numerous. Reading the story it is diffcult to tell. Maybe this person should attend the Easter Dawn Service and feel the inspriation that comes from this cross and the service.

I agree with the Mayor. Fight it all the way. There are other religious festivals and holidays which are recoginized by the city, why not leave the Christians have theirs.

I have lived in the city of Reading all
my life ( 53 years ).It is with pride
that I have watched this cross shine bright over the city, and most every Easter, witnessed this crosss first hand while attending the easter service on the mountain. It is a symbol of hope for the city. If these un-believers are able
to ignore Christ, then they should continue to ignore this cross.

Amen Steve S., couldn't have said it better.
Maybe we shouldn't be so worried about the cross on the firetower and more worried about all the closet pervs that stalk for a** underneath it.

ACLU and that non profit organization needs to mind there own business... how dare they try to make an issue out of something that has been in this city for years and years, and really the only time you see it is when you look up. if you don't like it don't look at it. Everyone is entitled to their belief obviously the people from Reading are not bothered with the cross being there. the outsiders need to leave it alone and worry more about the bigger issues this city has other then the minor things. this is rediculous. and with that said i know it's early but i hope everyone has a wonderful GOOD FRIDAY and HAPPY EASTER!

I think it's about time we all fight this together, there are many people who lived here all there lives and its about time we stop letting one or two groups of people tell us what they think we should do as far as Christ is concerned. Close you eyes, turn your head, do something but leave the Fire Tower alone.

Interesting... why have we become a nation of fools that always have to pick something out that we don't like. If it doesn't affect you in any harmful manner why is it a problem? Some people, alot of people, need to learn what freedom is all about.

Tell the ACLU to check the constitution.....no where does it mention seperation of church and state in it. Constitution states "congress shall make no law regarding an established religion or any there of." Meaning congress can't come in and make a mess of the church like it is with the economy.....Seperation of Church and state appears in a letter I believe from Thomas Jefferson to one of the Bishops in New York or Boston stating the church shall remain seperate from the state as not to interfere in the church as England was in the church. This was to calm the Bishop's fears of government running the church. ALCU stands for American Communist Lovers Union.

The cross should remain. It is a tradition and we honor other religions in the manner they choose. If this ONE person assumes his or her wishes are so much more importnt than everyone else's he or she really needs to get a reality check. Offices now refer to Christmas parties has "holiday" parties. To remove the cross is going against the rights of all who want to view it. That cross should remind people of compassion, kindness, decent values and gives recognition of a Higher Power. In today's times we need to reflect on that! This "offended" person can also move to Iran or Iraq and see how much his opinion counts. Better still, let he/she critize their belief and bring a court case against them and see the repercussions of that one and our legal system will not be able to protect him/her.

This is absolutely a waste of time, and taxpayers money. Stop the nonsense in this world and worry about feeding starving children, finding employment for people laid off during this time.

PEOPLE GROWN UP AND ALLOW EVERYONE THEIR BELIEFS!!

Oh My God!Some people have nothing better to do than to mind someone else's business. Maybe you should move to another city where they don't have a cross. What if I don't like your face. Do I take it down, take the light out of it or just rearrange it. Get a life.

If you want to see a cross so badly, put it on your own front yard where it is legal and your right- NOT on a city-owned fire tower! Since when is tradition an excuse to put a religious symbol on property owned by the city?
