Losing moral authority

U.S. Rep. Nancy Pelosi, speaker of the House, was right when she said: "If freedom loving people throughout the world do not speak out against China and the Chinese in Tibet, we have lost all moral authority to ...

RE: A taxing comparison
Democrats love to spend YOUR money. More taxes, more spending.

Funniest (or saddest) part of it is, we've had a Democratically controlled congress for how long now? Remember, "The people have spoken" and what has happened? They want to increase taxes.

How have they made your life better? Why are they still in office?

In 1993 Democrat President Clinton inherited the deficit spending problem and did more than just talk about it; he fixed it. In his first two years and with a cooperative Democratic Congress he set the course for the best economy this country has ever experienced. Then he worked with what could be characterized as the most hostile Congress in history, led by Republicans for the last six years of his administration. Yet, under constant personal attacks from the right, he still managed to get the growth of the debt down to 0.32%(one third of one percent) his last year in office. Had his policies been followed for one more year the debt would have been reduced for the first time since the Kennedy administration.

The first year Mr. Bush II was in office he had to borrow 133 billion. In 2003 President Bush set a record for the biggest single yearly dollar increase in debt in the nation’s history. He did it again in 2004, increasing the debt more than half a trillion dollars. Since 2003 total borrowing has exceeded $500,000,000,000 per year. Even Mr. Reagan never increased the debt that much in a single year. The national debt has increased an average of $1.5 billion per day since the beginning of 2002.

Democratic controlled congress? Are your figures from the Bush NCLB club?
(In 2001 -Dem.=45 .. Rep.=55),(In 2007 -Dem.=44 Rep.=55)(In 2008 - Dem.=49 Rep.=49).
If the President vetoes a bill, it would first be sent back to the House, where it originated, for an override vote. Success there is unlikely, since the measure needs two-thirds to override.

While I think Bush II has been a disappointment fiscally in particular, your assertion that he had to borrow 133 billion in his FIRST year would seem to mean that he inherited at least some of that problem. Financial good and bad does not stop at each presidential term. Each administration can share the blame for letting the american public down
