Todd Akin, Paul Ryan and the very real war on women

There are 297 comments on the www.nydailynews.com story from Aug 20, 2012, titled Todd Akin, Paul Ryan and the very real war on women. In it, www.nydailynews.com reports that:

Two words that should never be used together in the same sentence: legitimate and rape.

But that’s the way Rep. Todd Akin (R-Mo.) chose to speak about the sensitive topic that has impacted millions of women in the United States in an interview with a local television station Sunday. In defending his extreme anti-choice position – that a woman who is raped and becomes pregnant should not be permitted to have an abortion, Akin said, “First of all, from what I understand from doctors [pregnancy from rape] is really rare. If it’s a legitimate rape, the female body has ways to try to shut that whole thing down.”

POlls over at real clear Politics show the presidential race neck and neck in the popular vote and obama slightly ahead in the Electrol collage with odds being that the Republicans will end up with 52 Senate seats and control of the House.
Now Obama could not get hardly anything done with the Democrats having a large majoirty in both house. Does anyone think he going to get anything done with Republicans in control of both Houses?
but they won't get control of the Senate with this Ahole Akin running. Even Carl Rove told him to get out of the race. this is how people ruin things. He is putting himself above the party. All he has to do is get the hell out of the way and it is an easy win for the Republicans.

Compare the language that Conservative use to describe women and then compare the language Liberals use to describe Mormoms, Catholic and other Religious and see which is more insulting and which is more respectful .
Do you mean how some "conservatives" have used language such as "legitimate rape" to describe sexual assault that leaves severer bruising?

Perhaps you're referring to the way Rush described a woman on birth control as a slut?

Oh, I know...maybe you mean the way Palin insisted that rape victims pay for their own rape kits, because we can't have those freeloading whores leeching tax dollars to help bring down the guys that had a legitimate claim to their bodies, right?

GFY. Your "kind" has the patent on demeaning language towards women, and everybody knows it.

They are trying to make rape legal. that's what this is really all about. By the way, Palin had her first child out of wedlock and so did her daughter.

It is a cult though. By definition it is a cult. They believe in wearing magic underwear and they believe we all came from this other planet and that Jesus arose from the dead and came to the U.S., that Jesus was in Missouri. It is a cult by definition. They believe all different things than the traditional Christian religion.

You mean the way Christians attack gays CONSTANTLY with their accusations that they're going to hell for loving who they love? You mean the way an abusive cult was ratted out for selling off young girls to perverted old men to be raped and forced to breed in the name of religion?

Oh, right. Gays aren't really "people" to you folks, and neither are females. Look who I'm trying to reason with.

How about you take responsibility for your people's perversions, sickness and crimes against innocent people for a change? Your pool of purity is a might bit tea colored, as it is.

The problem with Bill Maher is that he is always right. He is right there is no gods and people made up different gods and different religions. His show last week was so intelligent, it was the best show he has ever done, ever, in terms of being so right on the money, so correct, of having such an intelligent perspective about the Tea Party. Anyone who wants to see someone who is so funny and so super intelligent doing his best work try to look at his show from last week. Amazing. Him and Colbert are the two funniest people on the planet, best comedians in the business today.

Ok so by your own admission you are a religious bigot and see nothing wrong with religious bigotry.
I guess that you think this was a great day in US History and wish it could be repeated
Missouri governor Lilburn Boggs declaring "the Mormons must be treated as enemies, and must be exterminated or driven from the State." Three days later, a renegade militia unit attacked a Mormon settlement at Haun's Mill, resulting in the death of 18 Mormons and no militiamen. The Extermination Order was not formally rescinded until 1976.

All I said is it is by definition a cult. Scientology is also a cult by definition. They also believe we came from another planet and in aliens and all these other things that is completely different from the Christian religion. I didn't say anything about they don't have the right to practice their religions. You're mixing up my saying Mormonism is a cult with being against religion. I don't care if people like to worship any of the made up gods, doesn't matter to me if they want to pray to the fake Muslim god, the fake Skik god, the fake Christian god, practice scientology or Mormonism or practice witch craft. Whatever gets you through the day as long as they don't harm other people. The ONLY bad part about all of it is the fact that there are NO gods so think of the bizzillion tons of energy billions of humans have wasted praying to man made gods that don't exist and think of how that screws all of us while we wait for nonexistent gods to solve all the problems humans have created when there are no gods. So it's a real problem if you believe in things that are not real because you can't solve any problems that way. But people were indoctrinated into all this stuff as kids, so it is what it is, they still believe it, they can if they want to. Doesn't matter to me other than it does stop them from understanding humans create all the problems and only humans can solve all the problems. It's like if you want to chop down a tree would you be better off having a chain saw to do it or a candle?? Using the right tools to get things done works better than praying to man made gods. So it's kind of important, and what Bill Maher is doing is maybe the most important thing anyone on this planet could be doing. Imagine if the Muslim radicals found out gods are not real. Imagine. they would no longer want to kill anyone.

There are parts of the healthcare system that I don't like at all. Yes, competition is good for consumers, but this plan actually, if I understand it correctly will raise premiums for people, and tax people who don't fall into the right category to afford insurance, yet aren't at the level where this plan would help them at all. You've got a lot of people in that very situation. Making just enough to be above medicaid levels, not enough to pay for insurance. Some of it would in theory work, but keeping your children on your policies till they are 26 is only going to make insurance companies richer. People are going to be paying a higher premium for their kids, and those kids are likely to have less need for hospitilization, and doctors, so the insurance companies reap the benefit. I do like that people with pre existing conditions will not be able to be turned down for insurance, but many of those also can't afford said coverage. I'm torn with this one for sure!
I need to learn more about the minutia of the healthcare system. I must admit that I don't know all that there is to know about it, and I need to get it from a trustworthy source, which is tricky!

Regarding kids: they need insurance anyway. Family policies are often made more affordable since they are similar to a "volume" discount. Since the kids are healthier, they *should* probably get lower rates, one would hope.

It's very complicated, so it's good that you (and I!) are "torn". It means we are paying attention to the details :)

you know there's a "cap" being put on premiums, based on household AGI, and family size.
CEO bonuses are also capped under the new plan.
and the amount of your premium being used for "overhead" is also capped.
the only ones that will be affected by the "penalty tax" will be those that make enough to afford it, but choose not to get it, because if you can't afford it, then you probably qualify for medicaid.
(the poverty level in the US has already been changed, that's why we used to have something like 1 in 11 living in poverty, but now we have 1 in 6 living in poverty, it's because they changed the dollar amount that depicts poverty)
