Abortion Rights Community Has Become the NRA of the Left

There are 66 comments on the WTAG-AM Paxton story from May 6, 2013, titled Abortion Rights Community Has Become the NRA of the Left. In it, WTAG-AM Paxton reports that:

The abortion clinic of alleged killer Kermit Gosnell was not illegal. But any talk of more government regulation unleashes an NRA-style assault from the abortion rights contingent, says Kirsten Powers.

The failure is not only Gosnell's - it is the failure of those entities charged with the responsibility of inspecting medical facilities, and enforcing the laws already on the books.

Not to mention regulations requiring things such as 'wider hallways' and 'specific distance(s) from schools', etc, which limit access to this alone among medical procedures.

Women WILL have abortions. Outlawing the procedure will only result in more women's deaths.

Self-professed liberal columnist Kirsten Powers nails the diabolical intransigence of abortion apostles:

"... Speaking as a liberal who endorses more government regulation of practically everything—banks, water, air, food, oil drilling, animal safety—I am eternally perplexed by the fury the abortion rights contingent displays at the suggestion that the government might have a serious role to play in the issue of abortion, especially later-term abortion. More and more, the abortion rights community has become the NRA of the left: unleashing their armies of supporters and lobbyists in opposition to regulations or restrictions that the majority of Americans support. In the same way the NRA believes background checks will lead to the government busting down your door to confiscate your guns, the abortion rights movement conjures a straight line from parental consent to a complete ban on abortion.

"Such an attitude makes having an honest conversation about abortion almost impossible."

Abortion clinics should be monitored and regulated no less--and no more--than any other medical clinic, period.

The problem with pantal consent is that the parents aren't the ones who are pregnant. Should a teen have to go through an unwanted pregnancy because the parents want her to suffer for her "transgression"?

If she is considered old enough to make this medical decision, then she should be considered old enough to make all of her medical decisions.

I hate to tell you, but in many cases, she already is. It's been a while since you've had a teenaged girl, hasn't it?

Three years ago, I was not allowed to accompany my 16 into her OB's office, even though SHE told him she wanted me there and it was her very first appt., and he was not allowed to discuss anything with me, I was not consulted at all, though she told me later what was said. Privacy laws.

What other surgical procedure would she be allowed to sign the consent for?

Not a clue. It never came up. Still, my point stands. If I'd wanted her to HAVE a procedure, or a treatment, like the HPV vaccine, and SHE objected, guess what? It wouldn't happen, no matter what I wanted.

That is neither here nor there. Children cannot give consent for a surgical procedure, except abortion.

First-semester abortions aren't surgical. More to the point, the girl takes all the risks in pregnancy; she should make that decision.

Well, not true. My daughter, for instance, signed for her oral surgery. A friend drove her there and back, I wasn't even there. I'd bet there are other outpatient procedures that someone over 16 can sign for. Abortion is an outpatient procedure.

God forbid if a child gets caught at school with an aspirin, but if she wants an abortion that's ok.

God forbid that idiots like you would demand that a "child" remain pregnant.

God forbid that a "child" has sex and gets pregnant. But then if a "child" has an idiot as a mentor like you giving your sage, feminist, advice, that "child" will exercise "her" freedoms unwisely to that sad end, pregnancy.

Look at the sad knuckle dragging specimen upset with feminism. Poor dear probably didn't get his din din served hot and fresh to him tonight and his little ego is bruised. YAWN.

Well posted from a gay liberal who is so rude as to post an unsolicited response to a comment not directed to you. And, of course, you had to show your liberalism by attacking a 'woman' who was not party to the posting, and not around to defend herself.

What a macho gaybot you are.

Now what?

Do I really appear to be upset about feminism? You can tell all that about me from behind your security keyboard? Bruised ego? Really?

You have been trailer trashing those who believe differently from you for so long you are the one who is "YAWN" boring. In fact, you have gone beyond that. You have awakened the anti abortion supporters to the neo-nazi feminist agenda, and now have ushered in some substantial reversals to abortion and it's advocates like Planned Parenthood.

Now you are in the 'laughable' arena of public opinion. Kind of "stings" doesn't it?

I'd say 'give your permission', unless your kid is allergic to Tylenol.

If my daughter was so afraid to talk to me, that the school was where she turned for help with an unwanted pregnancy, it would be my own fault - not the school's. If you have a problem with school policy as regards abortion, run for a place on the school board, and change it. Form a parental coalition. Picket the passage of laws against parental notification, at your State capitol.

Democracy is not a spectator sport, kiddo. Get your hands dirty.
