The "caveman" republicans mentioned in the article have nothing to do with the ideals of America. They don't even understand the relevance of the First Amendment - which is what Americans are supposed to use to influence the culture regarding social issues. They instead would rather use the brute force of government and then complain when the leftists do the same.

As government power grows the weaker the minds of the general populace become. Government will take care of it - they will be "responsible". Just get some legislative body to pass a law or get the majority of mindless voters to vote it in but don't bother trying to convince people in a rational way that appeals to their intelligence. Don't acknowledge their choice in the matter - just "pass it" or let the "majority" decide.

If all someone has to do is pass a law, ordinance, or regulation to implement their personal values then the First Amendment will soon become irrelevant or the object of some group's intolerance and maybe THEY will have a vote to repeal. Some might say it's not possible but hey, anything is in a relativistic society of intolerant, whining puritans desperate for their security and safety nets.
