Pregnant girl, 12, in baby plea
The pregnant schoolgirl who is about to become Britain's youngest mum is pleading with social work bosses to let her keep her baby, it has been reported.
The girl, who was aged just 11 when she became pregnant, fears the infant may be taken into care when it is born. It emerged on Friday that the girl, now aged 12, will become the country's youngest mum.
The West Lothian youngster, who has not been named, is due to give birth in a few weeks, breaking the record set by Jenny Teague, of Dorset, who had a baby aged 12 years and nine months in 1997.
But she told the Scottish Sun that social workers had warned her she may not be allowed to keep her baby.
The paper has reported that they told her the house she shares with her mother and five brothers and sisters may be too small, and needed decorating. Now she is hoping to get the chance to look after her child.
She told the newspaper: "I just need the chance to prove myself - I know I can be a good mum.
"I've been told by social workers there's a chance the baby won't come home with me from the hospital. They say our house is too small and needs redecorating.
"I'm willing to do whatever it takes to keep my baby, I don't know how I'd cope if I lost it."
And she added: "I feel like I'm being picked on because of my age but I love kids and I think being a mum will come naturally. If they take my baby away from me and my family I'll end up really depressed."
The news that the youngster is to become the UK's youngest mum sparked outrage from the Catholic Church and also led to calls for better sex education.
If this were your daughter would tell her to keep the baby or should she have had an abortion? The Father of the baby is only 15. He was arrested and charged earlier this year.
Those are the dumbest reasons to not let someone keep there child! The more family she has-the more help she will get! and decorating has NOTHING to do with a childs enviroment being good!

What Mum would let her 11 year old daughter go out party, drinking, smoking and having sex? Aren't 11 year olds suppost to be kids?
The Mum of this 12 year old is on benefits. She had her fourth baby 9 months a go. The 12 year old daughter had to babysit for her brothers.
I pity the child that is going to be born. While I do not agree with abortion. Adoption in some cases should be a option. Like this one.
SHES probably not drinking and stuff-you know how newspapers work! theybend the story like theres no tomarrow!

The pregnant 12 year old girl was interviewed on a radio station in London recently. She was out for a night of drinking, partying and smoking when she had her first experience with sex at 11. This girls mum let her daughter go out with friends to party. The girl admits to smoking up to 25 cigarettes a day. The newspaper have the story pretty much correct.

The 12-year-old, who has not been named, told a national newspaper she was "really excited" about having a child after losing her virginity at 11 to a boy during a drunken night out in Edinburgh.

When she gives birth in a few weeks she will break the record set by Jenny Teague, from Poole, Dorset, who had a baby at the age of 12 years, nine months in 1997.

The girl, who smokes 20 roll-up cigarettes a day, said she did not believe in abortion and so decided to go ahead with the pregnancy.

But she said she was confident she would be able to deal with motherhood. "I've had lots of practice looking after my brothers," she said.

The young 12 year old girl has been interviewed and she has always said the same story. I do think the newpapers and telly have this story correct.

Im sorry about my misunderstanding. That is very sad tho that she would put herself in that kind of position.(I also want to make it clear that i still do not support the social services taking her baby away unless they have a very good reason. But either way the baby shouldnt be aborted and i hope this is not in there plans)

No according to news this girl had no plans to abort the baby. She should be having this baby within the next month. Between the social services and the local council they will be watching this case. Since the future Nan is on benefits! I do think this family need to be educated and made aware that this type behavior from a 12 year old girl is satifactory. Smoking heavily and having sex at 11 from a drunk night of partying isn't normal for girls this age. The Mum should be made accountable for her daughters actions.

I meant to say: "I do think this family need to be educated and made aware that this type behavior from a 12 year old girl is unsatisfactory"!! Not Satisfactory!!

I could not find anywhere in the story where it stated that the father was arrested. Is there another article that I don't know about?

The Catholic Church has thrown a big fit over this case. I know the social workers will be involved in this case for a long time to come,if they allow this young girl to take the baby home.
I'm just curious where it states about the Catholic Church's opinion. I only read that the church was upset. I would like to know if there may be a fuller article about this unfortunate event.

If this were MY daughter Id fight tooth and nail to keep the baby! Whatever it took. Plus Id educate her in the fact that while she is wanting to have sex it isnt appropriate and it isnt going to happen again as long as she is MY minor child. Then Id keep up with her SO closely that she'd probably HATE me until she hit her early twenties and then after that she'd THANK me for being strict and stern with her. Sometimes you cant be your kids friends, sometimes you HAVE to be their PARENTS! Ive just found out that my 19 yr old son is visiting a 15 (soon to be 16 yr old girl!) He is VERY upset with me.(Not NEAR as upset as I with him!) because Ive forbid it. Its not gotten sexual and he says her mom knows his age...BUT as long as he is under MY rood -there will be NONE of that! I dont care of the POPE says its alright. He can hate me and think Im odd and backward if he wants! Later down the road he MIGHT discover that I saved his fool ass from JAIL! The idiot!
Sorry to hear about the situation with your son. Way to go, to stay on him about these circumstances. Maybe you could find some literature for him, if they decide to go any further with their relationship. Afterall, even if the girl's mom knows your son's age, if she even thinks there is sexual relations going on, your son can be charged with saturtogary (I'm not sure of spelling) rape. And depending on the circumstances, he could end up as a sexual preditor. I've read about this happening. Maybe he could do a little research for him and let him know about choices now ruining future. Being put on that list could affect jobs down the road for him. Again, I'm sorry about the situation you are facing, I will keep you and your son in my prayers.

Thank you for your well wishes and I told him exactly the same things! Its all good now though - they broke it off shortly after I wrote that comment. He admitted that he should seek out older girls. He'd just not known her age to begin with and then learned of it (after I did some investigating...lol) He had friends tell him the same as I (the same things you said) and he LISTENED to them! Thank God! hahaha

I'm pretty sure that your son being w/15yr old is legal in Alberta. In fact, 14 is the consentual age(w/age limitation of other party), I read an article somewhere - I'll see if I can find it later.

In my opinion, if she thought she was old enough to be having sex, then she is correct in thinking she is old enough to be a mother. Being a mother DOES come naturally for most, and there's no way to tell that it won't come naturally to her if she isn't given a chance. If she feels that strongly about keeping her baby, then obviously she's going to try her best to do a good job raising it.

Young mothers and fathers (or of any age, really) that cannot support themselves and live of benefits soaking up the tax payers hard earned money are a disgrace to society. Unfortunately, here in the UK, that is common for young parents.
I've heard of some that complain they don't have a big enough council house and they don't even have a job. Lazy - an understatement?
I don't really care at what age people have children just as long as they can support themselves and their children and give them the best possible start in life.
The benefit system in this country makes me sick.

I had my daughter when i was shy of being 13 by 2 mos. 1 day. It was hard but i did it. She is now almost 15 and is excelling. Dont let this child suffer this loss at such a young age. It may not be repairable

It's pathetic to think that a 12-16 year old child should get a job and support her child - this child-mother should be getting 'active' supports for health/welfare/education - not just holed up in some dilapitated housing, feeding off of food stamps.
If you haven't experienced it, it takes immense calculations to feed a family on the restricted funding, most apt adults could not do it. Live the reality - find out what the rations are: feed your family for 2 mos., don't forget that the food and supplies/hardware already in your home are not included - bare essentials only (unless you take from your food funds to buy that microwave, toaster, etc, for the first month. Laundry needs to be done at the laundromat, clothing, diapers, transportation, phone (no one with a small child should be without one), utilities, and shelter costs/rent (your mortgage payment will do!)- lack of sufficient funds can always be taken from your food rations).
WELFARE, as it is, does nothing to promote self-worth (enthusiasm, only out of spite for having to live under the conditions of poverty). Many children people succumb to believe that they are not worthy -"Santa doesn't love them as much as the kid next door who got that NEW bicycle, or X-Box, for Christmas", quoted from the mouth of my 6 yr old daughter.
It's obvious that her family was NOT capable of providing the atmosphere for her to accomplish self-worth/progression - sounds like the Social Workers were not able to assess, or address, the situations of the home.'Grandma' needs a 'reality' check.
Luckily, I'm no longer under the 'grips of poverty'/welfare and my child did get that NEW BIKE - for no special occassion (Christmas/Birthday) just because I wanted her to have one, and I could afford it without starving MYSELF.

This child should be put up for adoption. Letting a mother like that care for a child is a form of child abuse.

It's good that she doesn't believe in abortion, though. At least she's giving the child life.

Wait a minute here - who was it that was saying on another forum how "I" try to say what's "best" for others? And 'you' are doing what exactly above? You can object to a young mother choosing to give life to her child and try to care for him/her, yet I cannot object to grown women using abortion to kill their unborn children as a form of birth control? Bit of a double standard, I'd say.
