Does 'Legitimate Rape' Really Inhibit Pregnancy?

Aug 20, 2012 Full story: Patch.com 52

Is it possible for a female body to react differently to forcible sexual assaults versus date rape? Are there different "kinds" of rape? Isn't "rape" rape? U.S. Rep.

I'm a republican and I wouldn't vote for anyone of any party that spouted drivel like that. Hopefully the GOP will force him out of the race and put someone in with a brain.

I think Akin lost a lot of votes and needs to look at retiring his stupid self.

I believe any form of unprotected sex can cause pregnancy, and yes, that includes legitimate rape. There is no proof that the female body reacts any different from rape.

The same is true for HIV, Herpes, etc.

Mr Ryan just guaranteed Obama another four years. Women voters are not going to vote for someone with that attitude towards the LEGAL rights of a woman and her body.

Akin is an Idiot. But, Actions Speak Louder than Wordsl

Will Mo families prefer to crush their children's future hopes and dreams by enabling the ACTIONS of the super demonic Comrades Pelosi and Reid's Hard Left Soviet Collectivist DEBT Machine in Obama's D.C.?

Are MO families more concerned with Akin's stupid rants or McCaskells' PROVEN support of Obama/Pelosi's Orwellian Nightmare?

Legitimate that it is a crime that should be punishable by at least LWOP or capital punishment.

Ryan/Akin introduced the concept of “forced rape,” as if there were any other kind. Rape is rape, which by definition is not consensual.

It’s this kind of thinking that makes the Ryan/Akin knuckle-dragger crowd look so ugly and unappealing to voters in the Homo Sapiens community. It will cost the grand old “party of two species” the election.

Yeah Ryan/Akin! You go girls!

Obama/Anthony Weiner supporters will continue to post penis pictures on the internet to expose children to the lack of dignity and decency which represents what pass for Democrats in 2012.

Your inkblot test results are in...

It’s interesting that you believe you saw a photo of Anthony’s Wiener, but what you actually saw was a photo of his briefs. Gay panic can have that effect.

Comrade Pelosi DID NOT invent the Obama Doctrine. North Korea proved that Big Brother acts as a Vampire that sucks the very life out of the citizens it controls. Obama is merely adopting the North Korean model for America.

Your mixed metaphor, combining North Korea dictatorship and Romanian lore about vampires feasting on blood, doesn’t work well. As is the case with all mixed metaphors, the meaning of yours is actually unclear even though it apparently seems to make sense to you. You’d do better to whip up something creative comparing your villain (Obama) either to the “Dear Leader” or “Vlad the Impaler,” but not some bastardized attempt at combining them. It just doesn’t work.

Or you could just write something really double-down nasty about President Obama to relieve the tension.

The knowledge that there are actually people out there subscribing to this putrid victim-blaming mentality makes me want to hang up the hat on humanity for good.

It's bad enough that pro"lifers" find it impossible to see pregnant women as human beings, but the efforts to blatantly re-define rape to make it more acceptable is WAY out of line.

I want to put this asshole's balls in a vice and crush them slowly...whilst he's "legitimately raped" up the ass with a spiked object of some sort that will tear his lower intestines out through his sphincter once it's yanked.

Maybe when he's been "legitimately raped", he'll get a clue on how blatantly offensive and insulting his stance is to rape survivors.

Then again, he'll never have to worry about his rape resulting in the secondary invasion of an unwanted pregnancy. At least he'd only be getting raped ONCE.

32,000 women a year get pregnant from rape...a real number. And that's only the women that report the rape, many never report rape, simply because of fear.

Actually, the Korean Vampire Tale is quite well-respected among devotees of Asian Horror Genres.
And, even dead, Kim Jong (& it looks like that boy of his will keep up the bad work) is great fodder for Obama comparison jokes- look at the posters, the adulation [feigned by some, felt by, and fed upon, by others), the "hero worship" for a shrewd mega-maniacal manipulator who cares more for his agenda than the people he's supposed to be "leading"...
The writing & timing need a little work, is all.

Thanks, Luther. While I don’t see President Obama as a “mega-maniacal manipulator who cares more for his agenda than the people he’s supposed to be leading,” I stand corrected about the popularity of Asian horror genres. Do they include vampire tales?

Everybody is getting all stirred up over Akin's use of the word "legitimate" but that is not the real issue. He used legitimate to mean "real." The real issue is his stated belief that rape could not result in pregnancy. This belief is shared by a lot of people on the Christian Right. Maybe 15 years ago I heard someone say what Akin did on a TV talk show in almost the same words. I am not sure who/what the guy was, but I think he was an MD or a Psychologist who was a guest on some televangelist's show.

Everyone’s stirred because Paul Ryan worked with Akin to co-sponsor the bizarre “forceable rape” bill. Romney’s choice for running mate agrees completely with Akin. Of course it’s “Christian Right,” but that doesn’t make it acceptable to rational, reasonable people. It is indeed another example of the “Christian Right” actually being the “Christian Wrong.”

God bless Hester Prynne!

Whoever the guy was was a nutjob and so is Akin.
